    How does one tell if it's a stage 1? Block and head numbers are the same as normal 455 castings so I guess by the valve size?

    Those are 70 rockers not what was used in 74

    Fist of all, the Stage 1 engine option in the Rivieras was not the same as the Stage 1 engine option in the (A-body) GSs. Both used the big valve heads, but the other parts were all different: camshaft, distributor, carburetor, etc. This Riviera's engine, based on the observations noted in this thread, could very be a replacement engine wearing the original air cleaner.
