Looking for the maker/seller of the hood insulation pad for my 73. I see lots of online photos of cars with nice pads but can't find anybody who's sells the correct piece.

Anybody bought a correct one lately?

Jeff from Cars (oldbuickparts.com) is where I get them. I believe the manufacturer is REM in PA but they don't wholesale. I have seen the material with the smooth toward the engine on most 73's which is opposite the way it is on the pre 73. You must tell him which way you prefer as it is not reversible once they cut it.

Got REM part SKYHIN025 from CARs . Far as I could find there is no body else making these. Pretty decent piece. Several things different than original. First, its 1 inch thick. The original appears to be lots thinner. See photo. The black part is OE the grey looking is new. Also the original looks like it was formed to the hood shape, the REM is just flat. It's makes the sides hang down and looks bad. The RF corner is also got an odd notch cut in it the original didn't have.
It's better than nothing but they could improve it with a little work. 920.JPG 921.JPG 923.JPG 927.JPG

Did you ever consider cutting the insulation and fitting it in each section? On my 73, I wasn't happy with the look, even on the factory insulation. To me, it looked like a universal piece[ I installed mine with the smooth side down. I just think that it looks better. ATTACH=full]442331[/ATTACH]

Did not think of that. It does look way better. Was trying to make it look stock which does look like a universal pad was stuck on.

I found the same thing as underdog with my insulation! was pretty sure it was smooth side down a couple of years ago when I took the original out. Ordered one and found that it was cut to fit with the grey side facing down and it also looked awful with the sides hanging down. Good to know one might be able to special order one cut for the smooth side down. Might also look at cutting the one I ordered and butchered and fitting it in like 1973 GS suggested.

Check out #10. I cut a large used sheet down to fit my '69. It appears my flimsier '76 hood has a different frame than the '73-75 hoods so that wouldn't work well.
