1972 "WF" 455 motor

I am looking for a 1972 "WF" engine for my 4 speed GS. The current motor which is not original is knocking so I figure if I have to rebuild one I will try to get it as close to original as possible. Thanks for your help. Tom 610-442-2503

 

Tom..THIS is your lucky day!!!! In storage, I have a "WF" from a '72 Electra. I've had it for over 10 years. Carb to oil pan, water pump to flexplate, exhaust manifolds, brackets and the original distributor! I drove this car home. Yanked the motor and scrapped the rest of the super Rustobucket duce'na quarter. Anyway, $600 and its all yours. I would consider shipping it BUT ONLY IF you thro me a little Xtra to build a crate...and I DO know how to crate an engine! SO NOW WHAT? Where are you located? Wheelz, Tampa Bay

 

Tom...I think the motor i have that i was gonna build is a WF and it's in northeast ohio...let me know if you and wheelz don't get together...i'll confirm motor code. good luck...chris

 

i also have one that is disassembled and the block has been tanked and magged and new cam bearings already installed. its stock bore.

 

Thanks guys. I found a rebuilt 455 out of a 72 RIV in NJ. I am waiting to hear what code it is. If this falls through I will be contacting someone on here to purchase one. Thanks for all of the response.:TU:

 

NOTE: you will need to change the oil pan and sump...Rivis have the center sump oil pickup. Keep us informed. Wheelz, Tampa Bay

71 and later Rivs had rear sump pans as did all buicks with 455 engines from 71 on up.

TRY to contract a carrier with a lift gate....I will build a crate, strap the engine onto it and load it on my trailer. I can backup to a lift gate, where the transport guy can roll his pallet jack form his lift gate, onto my trailer...and load the crate onto his truck using the lift gate....I have perfected this procedure many times....in fact, just last week I sent an engine to England!
