Just to clear up any confusion, for '72 Buick did not have a different carb # for Stage 1 cars based on transmission type. There were however two different numbers, 7042942 was for the Stage 1 cars sold in California and the Stage 1 cars sold in the other states got a 7042242. Strangely, there was a different carb # for automatic and manual transmissions for the GS455 cars (not Stage 1).

According to the Buick Daily Car Reports only about 32 Stage 1 hardtops had the 7042942 carb (25 at Fremont and 7 at Flint). There were also a few Stage 1 convertibles sold in California too but if someone is looking for one of these carbs, they are very hard to find.

    Sold or built in CA?

I'll change the thread title to reflect correctness.

That would be sold in Ca.

There are Flint built (and other states) Buicks sold in Ca. that had to meet there emissions...

So my father ordered this car as his demo late 71 we believe it to be a very early stage 1 car it was a flint car however was sold in hillsboro Oregon. In the eighties my brother found it and had it for awhile unfortunately he was young and it had 14's on it so it was quite squirley and he put it in a ditch. we will take pictures of it on saturday and post them when finished thank you for all your input he was always confused about the numbers deal because his replacement 72 has the other number carb.
