I just picked up a 1972 Skylark Suncoupe and the handle mechanism for the retractable roof is broke.

Anyone with some Suncoupe parts ? ? ?

Also, the vinyl top (sunroof portion) isn't as nice as I'd like, any recommendations as to who can restore this type of roof ? (Midwest location preferred)

Does anyone know if Dave Kleiner is still restoring Buicks ?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

I have a few extra parts left. The one part you asked for, I sold a fews months ago.

Contact "staged 70" on this board also his name is John Kemper. What he can't help you with, I may be able to.

Have any pictures of your Suncoupe? If so send them to me at: sunbuick@aol.com

There Is A Suncoupe In A Salvage Yard In Maine . I Looked At It To Buy It For Parts And Never Got Back . The Name Of The Plce Is Browns Exit27 Salvage In Gardiner Maine . Tel # Is 207-582-7002 . I Am Not Sure He Will Look To See If The Part Is There If Not Let Me Know And I Will Take A Ride Down And Look .

Poston sells reproduction handles and emblems. The handles are fragile, they usally break due to lack of lube in the release mechanism. You have to find NOS vinal for the top, the new stretchy stuff doesn't work very well.

Also remember that the Suncoupe had no seams in the top . Use unbacked material . The mechanism is getting hard to find in good useable condition . I have one that needs to be worked on but I have to find the time to take it apart and get the splines rebuilt . Not many machinists want to do this . I am talking to a supplier for the original material. I understand it is a overseas thing and I might have to buy a lot of it to get it . I cannot sell any parts until I get my car done .

Congrats to be in the Suncoupe family. You will love it. I know it will not help a lot, but there is a guy in lower upstate NY that can do a fabulous job on your top. Good luck finding someone that is willing to attempt the job. I went to over 6 places and got all declines. Then I happened to come across a guy with a Suncoupe in my new area that had one done a year earlier.

I have found a place that has NOS vinal top material, the correct type. Not sure what colors they have left, but I got white. If there was enough interest and I had confirmed orders for 20 tops, I would have them made up.

I am interested in pricing as well . I want to make sure its the original material . The vynil must be wide enough to do the entire top with no seams . It must not have fuzzy backing . Please send some pics of what he has . I have a section of the original material but just enough for the folding part . Keep us informed . PM me so we can get this thing going . There are many Suncoupes out there .

The Poston handles are pretty good , The embossing is fair where it says Golde . The hole that the pin goes thru is thicker on the repo but they are softer material . I provided the original to Jim for repo . He gave me 3 handles in exchange for it . I have broken a couple of them . The top is very tricky if you get it too tight it will break the handle and too loose and it will leak and the wind noise will be terrible not to mention the flapping will tear the top . Also anyone here doing these tops the cables must be installed with a spring to keep the sides tight .
