I have a 72 Skylark pot metal grille that I am selling that is in nice shape. The grille is all in tact with no cracks. The center vertical rib has a rub mark where the bumper must have rubbed it at one time. All the studs are there with no damage - $100 + shipping (updated price $75 + shipping)
Clark, My 72 pot metal grille will phyically fit your 71. I believe you would at least need a 72 flat style hood nose piece to take up the difference for the 72 grille being shorter in height - there would be more of a gap.
I was always told that 72 Skylark grilles and GS grilles are identical except for the color. My friend has a 72 Skylark grille and it looks nothing like that. It actually has around 3 chromish horizontal ribs from side to side and the waffle in between. Was there more than one style grille for 72?
There are different ones, not sure on the spec.s' I am in the market for a new grill and this one does not look like mine either, but may be interested if anyone knows the difference.
Joe, There are a couple of different types for 72. The pic you are showing is the plastic version that is for a 72 GS/Skylark. The one I have is pot metal that is correct for the 72 Skylark Custom. I have a couple of the plastic versions that I am doing some repairs on them and will be selling in the near future.
All the ones I've seen have been black for the GS in 72. Yours looks exactly like my friend's.. I was just gonna have him mask off the chrome part and shoot the rest black. His is also plastic. Unless the whole thing is supposed to be black and no chrome at all. Now that I think about it, I think there's no chrome or silver part showing on a 72 GS grille, I think the whole thing is supposed to be black.
