Since i've been parting out rusted away or wrecked heaps i've come across 2 types of 72 Skylark GS hood nose trim.I've found both types on Skylarks and GS's.One has the chrome curving down & the other is straight. My GS has the curved type & i think it looks best. Both have different part numbers too.
Does anyone know if one type of nose trim goes with a specific car or maybe a specific manufacturing plant or not?Just an example the last 72 skylark i dragged home was a 4-door custom model. It has the straight nose trim.I also have a 72 2-door custom here that has the curved nose trim. Then awhile back i bought a 72 GS hood that had the straight nose trim while my GS has the curved trim
Duane are you out there?I don't why this bothers me so much :Do No:
    Thanks

    Jeff,
we were perplexed by this same situation, on our "track hood" the nose was different even though it came off a 72, we thought it had been changed to a 71 at some point or something.

Here's a pic of the one we took off after buying a real nice 72 nose piece
Our boys little freind has a thing or two to learn about being a parts model

The 72 GS I bought has the straight type. The 72 GS hood I bought a couple years ago has the curved type........and I don't like either, I hate that painted slab sticking out above the chrome. I was thinking about putting a 71 trim and bezels on my car.......or I might still put all my 70 parts on the front, thats my true fav anyhow.

Thats a easy one. The standard Skylark and Sportwagon and GS have the chrome moulding that curves down at each end. The Skylark Custom with the metal grill used a straight moulding that didn't curve down on the ends and the non painted area was a bit wider. This was based on if the car had a metal grill or not. There are some Skylarks in 72 that came differently but this was a factory mistake. On the GS or GS Customs both use the trim that curved down at the end do to the fact all 72 GSs came from the factory with plastic grills. :Smarty: AL.

I don't understand what the different grills had to do with it.......the chrome on the trim "meets up'' with chrome trim on the headlight bezels to frame the grill, and the bezels were the same on all 72's, right? Just thinking out loud .................

The way I always knew it was is.... The "model" ( who is very cute) is holding a 71 only hood trim. The flat hood trim is 72 only.

Does anybody have both pictures to compare? I, too, have noticed the two types. I prefer the straight type (I think?). I believe something is misaligned and the trim kind of points down in the middle and isn't horizontal to the ground. I thought the straight trim might not accentuate that as much. Do they have the same mounting holes/studs, or are the hoods actually different as well?

Her is a pix of my front, notice the end curve doown at the ends. As far as a Skylark Custom trim its flater and the painted area is smaller. The reason I brought the grill into the picture to identify being a Skylark Custom using a metal grill and standard and GS being plastic use the mouldoing like mine. AL.

And the best part?? With the style that curves down, there are actually two styles of that...one is very heavy and solid and one is lighter and does not have the underneath chrome extend the entire distance out. Same part number as well.

72 headlight bezels also have two styles...one with a 3/8" wide top part(looking straight down on it) and one style with a thin edge on the top...same part number again.

    later
