Hi everyone - i'm looking for some info on doing a front disc conversion on my 72 Skylark. Specifically what fits, what is most easily obtained from the junkyard, what should I grab off the donor car, etc or are the premade kits the way to go? Money is an issue (who doesn't have that issue?) so if I can rip some parts off of a donor car in the junkyard and save some bucks i'd be happier than a pig in slop. I have a friend with what I believe is a G body from the late 70's and he seems to think that his front discs will work on my car with an adapter? Thanks in advance, and if the information has been posted anywhere a link would be all I need. -Austin
George's read is a good one. George again thanks for your entire site. TONS of VERY good accurate information. I've done the junkyard with new lines from fine lines including prop valve. after swapping cores and new rotors. It would have been cheaper for me to buy a new kit. (I went from non power assist 4 wheel drum to power assist disc front.) HOWEVER there are kits that can reuse your factory spindles. Look into these as some people who have problems with the kits, is due to a quality control between the ball joints and new spindles. (taper is incorrect where the ball joints fit into the spindle) They may have fixed this problem or if you know it's there you can check before final assembly. nate
Hey Guys - Thanks for the info. I guess this saves me from chasing geese in the junk yard. I guess my next question is how hard is it to find these brakes? Last junk yard I was at really only had late model stuff. If anyone knows of a good spot in Detroit i'd appreciate it. Thanks - Austin
its been said time and time again that g body stuff wont work but theres fellows out there that have done the swap.check team chevelle website or talk to nekkid hillbilly on here.
