I bought a Georgia car in Florida on consignment at a dealership. It came with an owner's registration and a notarized bill of sale from the owner of the car. I'm told by customs since the car is going to Canada that I need a title because the car had a title at one time. I have possesion of the car, can I get a title from Georgia even if I live in Canada? Or from any state, say New York with the owner's registration and a notarized bill of sale? Joe
Here in New York, on older cars (I forget the cut off year) if the registration says "transferable" it takes place of a title. Perhaps Georgia does the same thing.....is the owner's registration you were given marked "non-transrerable" ? Red tape..........:spank:
Joe, Inported a car from GA two years ago. In GA, if the chain of ownership is broken on a 1985 vehicle or older a Georgia Certificate of Title can never be issued. Basically what proves ownership is a State of GA Motor Vehicle Registration, (Beige piece of paper that goes with the plates) and a valid bill of sale. Did not have any issues with US or Canada customs with this. They do want to see this piece of paper Canada. Will dig up all paperwork. Have to go to Tim's for a coffee. Call me @ 905-579-5178 if you have questions. Chris.
Hey Chris, What do you do in Oshawa? I work for "the General" in st. Catharines. I'll be in Florida for Easter-St. Petersburg-if anyone wants me to bring them a can of coffee from Tim's. I just want to break even:TU: I will call you Chris. Thanks
