Is it Black or is it sort of a dark brown, it looks almost chocolate in the picture I see. but that could be my screen or eyes... LOL

Oftentimes the build sheet was placed above the gas tank or inside a seat between the springs and the burlap. I found a production order in the A pillar of a GSX I bought many years ago.

Is the pin stripe painted on or is it an applied vinyl stripe?

it is definitely black just the reflection of the ceiling in the garage and my camera

    Excellent!
I was kinda digging that deep chocolate color (maybe on something other than a GS)

Vinyl stripe, I think it doesn't make the car look very good towards the rear.

Glad you brought it up. First thing I'd do is ditch the stripe.

Nice! Was black was a special order (SCO) color in '72 (@BUQUICK)? Originally white top/interior?

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

    Dano,
Yes, Regal Black was a Special Car Order (SCO) since it was not a standard color offering for the '72 GS. I've only seen one black '72 GS that still had the window sticker and it did have line that specified "WD5 35 SPECIAL CAR ORDER PAINT $43.00" (or maybe it was $45). The paint code on the trim tag was 19 (19 = Regal Black) just like Ron's car with no mention of SCO.

    Ron,
You have a very rare and cool '72 GS 455 convertible.

Great find! as per removing the pinstripe I would try an eraser wheel on a drill. People say that works! Then, if you succeed I would buff the whole car out. I bet that old paint will look amazing, if it isn't checkered or cracked up already.

So I have been really busy since last spring, tore the car apart to to redo a leaking transmission seal from sitting for twenty years and ended up doing a complete tear down of the car. It was nice but I think it will be awesome now. Just waiting on the engine to return from the builder James Coakley. Until then I got time to put the interior back together.

Wow.....you went down the rabbit hole fast. Looks good! Did you have to put on both rear quarters? I looked back at the original pic you posted and the driver's side rear quarter around the lip looked kind of wavy, so was there a bunch of body work there? How were the inner panels?

I did both quarters and replaced both wheel wells.
