Fred Catlin, Fred Catlin! I also have a 1972 GS Stage 1. I was told when I bought it that the engine was built by Fred Catlin. Can any of you guys tell me anything about this individual? Is he still around? Contact info? Do you think he kept any records on the work he did? Tks! Mike
Yes, he is still around But other than being lucky I do not know how to contact him. 2 months after I bought my car in 2000, I trying to find out how to contact him. I live about 30 miles from him here in Indiana. It ends up, that I was talking to a new Buick friend here about looking at what I bought. He said he was coming to the speed shop in the town I live in. He was going to be doing some dyno work on an engine with a friend of his. Ends up, it was Fred. Fred was at the shop dynoing his Stage2 motor for his 69 Stage1 he bought in 69. He still races it. I bet if you are in Salem next weekend you might run into him. I think he still runs his Iron head stage2 at some of the somewhat local Buick races. I didn't get much information from him other than the specs of the cam. I think his engine build was very common. I think he always used a 118 cam and if the owner wanted put a B4B and MT headers on. How does your engine run??? I can only guess, very well. I have only been to 1 event at a drag strip. And have no experience racing but my car is really consistant. 60 ft. 330 ft 1/8 ET 1/8 mph 1.961 5.550 8.570 81.84 1.929 5.517 8.533 81.83 2.000 5.591 8.600 82.10 1.924 5.503 8.508 82.11 1.983 5.563 8.566 82.25 1.975 5.552 8.570 81.69 I got second place at this event and was so proud! I appreciate all of the advice I was given by our friend WildBill! I need to work on my reaction time, but this car was very consistant in my opinion. Good luck finding Fred. Maybe you can call Zimmerman's Speed shop in Greensburg Indiana and they can tell you when he will be in next for dyno time. Troy
