72 is my least favorite year. I'm not particularly fond of bumper guards and body molding, not a fan of vinyl tops either, yet this car has it all and I like it, I like it a lot. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buick-Skyla...5b9d4a65:g:3SAAAOSwGotWqkbr&item=272119974501
I posted an ebay listing a few months ago with a 72 white stage 1 with sloan docs and he was asking 26k I think which I thought was a very good deal
A lot of dealer-installed options. Was originally sold here in Syracuse, NY. I wonder if I know the original owner?
It sure looks like the ultra rare convertible cruise defrost plate There may be another plate I do not know of
Since the car is obviously not a convertible and has the "convertible/cruise/defrost" plate and has multiple dealer installed power options, I wonder of the switch on the top is used for one of those dealer power options like twilight sentinel? Look at the pic from the passenger door toward the driver side and dash ... there is some kind of clip or switch mounted to the inside of the A-pillar. What's that??? My '70 GS S1 stickered for about $600 less than this car and part of that was base price increases over three model years and the '72 455 engine & Stage 1 options over the base GS ... I had not seen a GS with more options than mine before looking at this car! Wow!
Someone added turn signal indicators from a MOPAR on the fenders unless its a option I know nothing about. The thing on the pillar doesn't look like a Buick part. When I zoom in on the dash plate it is indeed the same as a conv/defrost/cruise The twilight sentinal turns on with the headlights right.
Looks like something mounted on the drivers fender close to the windshield any idea what that is? It is on the 3rd picture
headlight control. Automatically switched high beams on and off when car are approaching. They could have at least painted the insides of the fenders body color by the hood hingesou: I guess thats one option it didn't get, a fully painted body.
rare option called twilight sentinal it picked up oncoming cars and dimmed hi beams I stand corrected the twilight sentinel turns on the lights when it gets dark and the Eye looking option is the auto dimmer feature called a guide o matic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twilight_Sentinel
I asked the seller a few questions about the car, here are his answers. Tom, I can't tell you what the switch above the defrost switch does but I believe the switch may have been part of an alarm system at one time. The sensor/switch on the driver A pillar is the control and sensor for the "Twilight Sentinel". On the center top dash is the "Fasten Seat Belt" lamp. The sensor on the driver side front fender near the windshield is the "Guide Matic" automatic headlight dimmer sensor. Thanks
The Twilight Sentinel turned the lights on and off (it may also have a delay 'off' feature). The Guide-O-Matic dims the high beams when it senses on-coming headlights. I have to wonder if the Dealer didn't use the "ACCESSORY" switch on the dash plate (the one which is usually for a conv. top) for an "On/Off" switch for the Guide-O-Matic? I have a Buick Accessory brochure somewhere which lists all this stuff including the fender mounted light monitors, but as you said earlier, it looks like there is an extra inboard set of Mopar style monitors on the front of the fenders .... overkill to be sure and it seems redundant, too.
Can you post a pic of the accessories booklet or a list? Is it different than the order form or have more options?
Here is the fender things W21 - Custom trim - vinyl start bucket seats, rear compartment courtesy lamps, rear custom seat back, instrument panel wood grain ornamentation & custom door and quarter build up, Guide Matic headlight control (dealer installed), Twilight Sentinel (dealer installed), Hood locks (dealer installed) What a great looking car... The owner has decoded the build sheet nicely
