So I accomplished the first major milestone today in my frame off restoration. I separated the body from the chassis. I built a rail and gantry system for one of my 4 post lifts and strapped the body to the rails, then I just lowered the lift. I sprayed all of the bolts with penetrating oil and tomorrow will start disassembly of the chassis components. I will have the frame media blasted and powder coated. A bit about the car: 1972 GS Stage 1 car. All matching numbers (engine, frame, etc). Correct (I assume original) carb, distributor, transmission (auto), and rear-end). Originally a Hunter Green car with buckets and a console. Optioned with a Sonomatic Radio, A/C, Speed Alert, Tinted Glass, Sport mirrors, Clock, and the Convenience Group. I plan to restore it to as close to "as built" as possible. The forums have been a great resource for my investigations so far, and I am sure I will have many additional questions as I progress. Thank you guys in advance for your knowledge and Buick passion.
Looking good. Holler if you are in the market for any parts for it, as I've got alot of parts I had gathered for the four 72's that I have.
Very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the progress. We also have a Hunter Green '72 Stage 1 hardtop. Ours has a white bucket seats, what color is your interior? I personally think that Hunter Green looks great on the '72s. Good luck with the project.
I would send body and all sheet metal to Nanty Glo Pa. Best place to get cars dipped. And he does NOT use harsh chemicals. Very environmentally safe. And easy to prep for paint. I did mine that way. Best decision I ever made
My 1972 GS Stage 1 Restoration Continues: I was able to get the frame and A - arms to the powder coater. I installed all of the front suspension components, restored the rear-end and completed all the brakes. I also ran all new fuel, brake and emission lines. Next steps: work on the wheels and get new rubber. I am gathering and restoring all of the engine pieces and will be assembling the motor shortly.
