    GTOROCKZ 70's Rule!

I just purchased a freshly rebuilt motor that is apparently out of a 1972 GS. It came complete with everything from the dual snorkle breather down. I saw the car but it was totally dismantled with all body parts in primer. It did have the GS grill, and the hood (wich I probably should have bought), so it should be a GS engine, but is there any way to tell between a Skylark 350-4 and a GS 350-4??? Or is there even a difference?
    The block is stamped 72
The number on the top of the block I could barley read from the machine work but is WB 064
    The head number is 8-1238145

    Any help would be appreciated!

See if the VIN matches the car. Check on the driver's front of the block right under where the head mates ( right behind the PS pump. ) In 72 I do not think the power rating was any different (unlike the 70 SP model.)

    GTOROCKZ 70's Rule!

Thanks Flyinbuick, I was mainly wondering if there was a hp difference. Was concerned the car could be a clone with GS body parts and breather.
Wish I'd of thought of that today.
Its over two hours away so I'll never get to see the body again. Was hoping head or block numbers would tell something. :Do No:

All my books tell me that WB was for the 350 with 4 barrell carb. It's listed the same for big cars and the A bodies. I think what Jim said is true. The same engine was used across the board, the only difference being dual exhaust on the GS.

Thanks for looking into it for me!
It's .030 over with a mild cam and T/A headers, so at any rate it should be a good runner for our 70 when the time comes.

If you check in the 1972 Buick Skylark Owners manual under Engine Identification. The location they state has the ID stamped is on the Passenger or Right-hand side of the front of the engine. The alternator and AC compressor are in the way of my car.
If someone needs this please eamil me and I'll scan the page on engine ID.
Prior to 72, I believe 71's and older the ID was on the driver's side-below the head on the block-face.
Hope this isn't causing an argument but I too paid Sloan to find this and stumbled across it in the manual.:beers2:

WB is correct for a GS and it was used in the Skylark as well. Same engine like stated before.
