Figured I'd introduce myself here. I recently bought this 72 Skylark, and the goal is to have something decently fast at the track (11-12s on the spray) but still driver friendly for longer trips like Power Tour, drag week, etc. The motor is a 1973 and appears to be pretty much stock with a poston intake and demon carb and long tube headers/full exhaust. the plan as far as the motor goes is probably to port/polish the heads and intake and mill a little to up the compression and add as big of a cam as the setup can handle. I havent decided if I want to stick with the th350 or go to a 200r4 which seems to be a popular swap. theres some rust in the front quarters and behind the rear window but all in all the car is in pretty good shape. after i fix the rust Im planning on doing a gunmetal plastidip paintjob with black plastidip gsx stripe and bumpers/accents. Im fairly experienced with the plastidip and feel pretty confident the paintjob will last a year or two, long enough to finish everything else with the car.

just a tidbit with these centerline autodrag wheels; alot of times you'll see them up for sale for cheap, and its usually because they cant stop them from leaking. Retarded tire shops will tell you the rivets need to replaced but actually all you need to do is dismount the tires, dig out all the old silicone covering the seam (they're two piece wheels) and resilicone them. Voila, you have a set of perfectly good wheels. :TU:

Nice set up. And welcome to the forum from Mckinney Texas. I like the paint scheme. I have a 71 Skylark that I'm in the process of building. I'm gonna go pearl blue with a white GSX decal with a red outline. Get the American flag in there and the wife is a big Rangers fan. So she won't heckle me as much for the cost lol. Good luck with your already awesome car.

Nice looking car. Where in central Texas are you? What track will you be running at?

I actually talked to you on FB a few days ago about a Q-jet (Don K) but my home track is Little River Dragway, I live in Belton Tx. I don't really plan on seriously drag racing the car as I already have a dedicated track car, but for old car/Buick shootouts I'm definitely looking forward to bringing this old girl out.

Ok, great. There was a bad wreck at Little River a few weeks ago and killed a driver. We aren't too far from there and will be back next spring for the Buick race. Hopefully in the Red car.

Let me know if you need a Quadrajet, or if I can help you in any way.

yeah I know, it was a local in a gt500 that didnt know how to drive. also just had a fatality at HMP (houston motorsports park) over the weekend. bad month for drag racing in texas. I will definitely be looking you up when the time comes. Out of curiousity, have you ever gone to Seguin to that old car junkyard for buick parts? Im still hunting for a 1970 front end and some small misc stuff like a rear view mirror. Im also debating trying to find a 455 and building that instead of doing anything at all to the 350.

I have heard about that junk yard with Buicks, but I haven't been there. I know several people that still have some parts if you are needing something. I sold all of my 350's and only have 455's now. I have a couple of spares that are in the way, but haven't decided if I should get rid of them or not. The Buick 350 is a good and fun engine, but I sure do like the 455's!

well, the junkyard didnt open for another 2 hrs by the time i drove by so that will have to wait. I also discovered i need airbags and sst mag style lugnuts for the 15x3.5 skinnies.

got some airlift 1000 60744 airbags installed in the rear springs, so much happier with the stance now. Now its time to start fixing rust and think about paint.
