Hello all I have been fortunate to come across a gentleman with a 1972 buick electra parts car, that possiblly has a posi rearend in it. He sent me pictures of the rearend and it does still have the "use limited slip only" tag. I have several questions. The car doesn't have a engine or transmission in it, so how is it possible for me to see if the rearend is still good or not. The guy has offered to jack the car up in the rear and turn the rearend to see if both sides turn. My thing is if they do turn, does this mean that this unit is fine? When it gets here I want to open it up, to see if everythings ok, but I want to know what type of things I should be looking for specifically, so I know if it's something that I could work with. Also, if I do purchase how do I go through it to make it sure it's fine to use, and when rebuilding a rearend, what does it take to complete the rebuild. Sorry for all of the questions, but I know you guys wouldn't steer me wrong. thanks:TU:

Just jack up one side leaving the other back tire on the ground. Try to turn the tire that's in the air. :TU:

can't you rebuild the clutch packs on these things if they go out?

Yes but the kit is about 175 bucks.

So the clutch pack is what I need to do the rebuild, with changing fluid and stuff of course. If so can someone tell me where I can find this kit. I'm going to get it in September, but I probally won't be putting it in, until the weather breaks again. When I open it up, is there anything I should be looking for specifically to know I don't have junk, that this is a good rebuildable unit. Also where can I look to find out what the gear ratio is? What were standard ratio with these, and what's the best ratio for me using a tall rim and tire combo, 22 or 24 rim.
