My 350 burns blue smoke at started up. Every time, no matter how long between start-ups. I think it is the valve seals. Someone told me that it could be a problem with the intake runners??? I'm not sure what he was talking about. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

problem with the intake runners? you should have them explain that and post it . thats odd.
i would say valve seals ,good time to pull heads for some portin':TU:
it could also be your trans modulator ,it will suck trans fluid up the small tube and syphon off fluid into engine when its off and when you start it burn it out
does it run rough when you start it up ?and are you useing up trans fluid and dont see any leaks?

    Andy,

Thanks for your reply. There is no leaks. No loss of tranny fuild. I'm burning some oil. The engine is running rough at first start-up because I messed with the carb, trying to get the secondaries to kick in. When I get on it, no get-up. When the engine runs for 1-2 minutes, no smoke, just a slight oil burning smell. When I get on it, no smoke or very very little. I had a friend drive behind me and he couldn't see anything.

    Thanks

    no smoke from tailpipes?
then maybe valve covers or rear seal leaking?
do you smell it up front or out the exhaust

9 times out of 10 blue smoke out the tailpipe on start up is valve seals. Not a big job...just time consuming.

Not a drop of oil outside of the engine. Just the smell of buring oil and blue smoke.

The deal about the runners........if I remember correctly the guy said something about damage to the runners where the bolts go.....letting oil into the cylinders. It was over my head. Not even sure that is what he told me.......something close to what I stated above.

I agree with Paul. Another sign of bad valve seals is blue smoke on deceleration which causes a high vacuum condition and will suck oil past poor seals. A damaged intake manifold gasket or a cracked intake manifold could allow oil to be sucked in under high vacuum I guess?? Although I think that would also cause the engine to run poorly. Start by checking the valve seals.

I don't think I'm getting much smoke, if any, when I let up on the gas. Car runs great once it warms up after a minute or two.
I will check out the seals come spring.

    Thanks
