$1200 is kinda steep, you'd have to take his word on the motor being in great shape and rebuilt as he says. Can he at least tell you what was done to it and what parts were intalled?

How well do you know the seller? Will he put a guarantee in writing? $1200 is too much for a gamble, you need some facts. I might be inclined to pass on it unless there is something very special and desireable about that particular motor.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

Does the 1200 include the Ram Air Breather ?? if so that is a few $$$ back in your pocket if you don't need it. That intake is worth a few $$ as well. If he can come up with some receipts for the work done and parts installed it might be a mild risk also make sure its a REAL GS motor and not a skylark 350 (not sure if it has codes to denote it as a GS motor but if it does that helps) find out what mech shop did the work maybe they can verify his claim to COMPLETE TOP TO BOTTOM rebuild... it could pay off and you get a great engine or it could be a bust... that's the risk you take

    Good luck :TU:

Where in florida are you? I'd be asking a bunch of questions before shelling out that much money. Also watching it run would be a plus!

I would only pay $200 for the engine. I have found good running engines complete for about $50-$200 in most places. Yes there are some extra on there like the alum intake and air cleaner assembly however this stuff is of little use if there is rust on the cyinder walls from sitting. Who knows how good or bad the rebuild was, it could be far worse than a stock 350.

Time for a compression/ leak down test. For that price it should hold up really good. I see it like this... if I wanted 1200 for a motor id show em it runs, spinning push rods, compression test and what ever else. But that's just me. Why can't you here it run?

It's a crapshoot.. I rolled the dice and won in a similar situation. Ended up with a perfect 350.. Not fast, but dead reliable..

Because putting on a run stand or in a car is very time consuming and expensive.. My guess..

John Getner had a rebuilt 350 for sale for like 700 I think. It was here in Ohio but I think he talked about shipping to FL. You should contact him.

i wouldn't buy it unless i heard it run, don't look like much to be able to crank it. i have bought motors that where not in cars and have started them on the ground.
