Hello My question is simple.. Does the buick 12 bolt for a Stage 1 have the bolt in type axle (like Oldsmoble) Or the C Clip type (Like Chevelle"s)???

Anybody have any pictures of a 12 bolt buick rear?? Thankyou Randy :TU:

I think the 12-bolt was a Chevy axle, not a BOP.

    '71 GS 455 Stg 1 had an 8.5 10 bolt, I've rebuilt 2 of them.

All "Chevy" 12 bolts used c-clip axles, though there were several strengths & parts numbers of this length axle shaft.

As three different axle plants produced "chevy" 12 bolts, the casting of the center housings will often be slightly different... thus occasionally different casting numbers for same year of housing.

Thankyou for the info Roger... I didn't get notified theat you replied to my post..I know that chevys all had the 12 bolt c clip rearends.. But Oldsmobiles had the blot in type 12 bolt rearends.. I now have a 10 bolt posi in my 71 stage one but by the numbers on it it comes out to a 72 skylark with the wrong gear ratio.. I am looking to put the correct rearend and gear ratio in it.. This is why I was wondering is a 10 bolt correct and is it a C clip or bolt in type rear end for a stage 1?? Please help?? Thankyou Randy

71 stage was a 3.42 ratio standard but more and less gear could be ordered.
