Hello, I just purchased a 71 buick gsx that was restored a few years ago. I'm sure both front fenders have been replaced but after I got the car home I noticed the l/h fender fitment was poor. It does'nt appear to be same make or quality as the right front as the fit is poor around the headlights and the front bumper. I'm new to the buick resto biz so..any leads on good oem or replacements parts would be appreciated. Does any company make high quality replacement fenders? I also need a right door mirror assembly. I have orderd a catalog from "year one" am I on the right track, thanks in advance for any assistance. p.s. To assist me with keeping my 71 gsx as it would have been in 71 can anyone suggest any books or manuals that I should purchase so I know how the heck the car was suppose to be put together or look like. thanks again
Your LF fender is probably a NOS fender that was made later after the mold shifted I have a few of those and all have fittment problems . I do have a drivers side fender thats got a few dings but it is but not rusted out . I have another thats got small amount of rust but the brace area is good and would only need a small patch .Shipping would be expensive unless your close to St Louis . Its good to post your location ( city and state ) so people close can see it .
thanks for the info and advice, my drivers side is perfect, the pass side is not too bad but someday when the car gets painted I'd like to change it. I'll keep my eyes open in the meantime. thanks gord
Just for youir info the parts are listed oriented by the drivers position . So a left front fender is the drivers side . When you state a part as needed use this or state drivers or passenger side . Any chance you will post some pics of that GSX and have you seen the GSX registry ?
I screwed up, it is the drivers side (L/H) that i would want to change. I'll try post some pics of my gsx if I can figure it out. I bought the 71 Cortex gold gsx that was restored by Mark Reeves (then and now) in 2000-2 i believe. The car is very nice but I am thinking that something happened to the drivers side since the restoration? How much for the fender, could you send some pics? I usually get my U.S. frieght shipped to Grand Portage MN as I live close to Thunder Bay, Ont.
I haven't seen the registry, I imagine someone has already registered this car but I will check it out.
