I was just going to list a link to this auction but see you beat me to it.I have never seen a GSX in Red or with a column shift, that is a rare car for sure isn't it.........
There was a 71 X that showed up at the GSCA Nats a few years ago. I think I recall the owner left the 1/4 panel down to the original paint to show it was factory..I think a red one would be the absolute best color to have an X in.Bar none...
Guys, The car on E-bay is not an X. They were all made in Flint. Also Glenn's 71 Red GSX started out as a 350 automatic non-AC limited option car. I was offered the car years before it became "known", but I didn't want another 71 350 GSX so I passed on it. I have pictures of it around here somewhere. Duane
You took the key strokes right off my keyboard ... novel use of exterior GS emblems on the interior door panels ... geeeez.
I contacted the owner and told him I wanted to see the car in person and that I suspected his was mistaken about the GSX label. He sent a reply saying it was sold.
The car is only 5 or 10 miles from me. If anyone needs me to to smoke it over let me know. Color chnge from Sandpiper beige and vinyl top, the odds are real high it is a made up car. Tr 104 in 71 appears to have been a sandllewood bench seat.
On a real red GSX, what color accent border stripes were used around the main black side & hood stripes?
I contacted eBay and advised of several issues w/ this car. I know that a person could report mislabeled and misrepresented items on eBay all day long ... it just bothers me that a dealer is involved and appears to be shrugging his shoulders and hiding behind the excuse "I dunno" and essentially posturing that he can say it is a GSX b/c someone else cannot prove other wise. Here are my questions to the Seller: Q: Can you confirm if this is a real GSX? By that I mean one that left the Buick factory when originally built as a 1971 Buick Gran Sport GSX. It is clearly advertised as a GSX. I am trying to be explicitly clear before bidding. Is this a "recreation", "clone", etc? The data tag appears to show that "Tr 104" in 1971 appears to have been for a sandlewood bench seat interior. Also, Buick factory literature and documentation shows that GSX's built at the Flint, MI plant only. The VIN on this vehicle shows it was not built at the Flint plant. Can you comment on these issues? A: We cannot confirm whether or not it is authentic and we have no documentation to substantiate. The owner did contact the GSX registry seeking guidance. They had no information on this particular VIN, but did mention that while most all documentation indicates that the GSX was made in Flint, it could not be ruled out that a few were made in Framingham.
I sent another question to the Seller. It just bugged me that the Seller told some one else on this board that the car was sold when he tried to go look at it and then keeps it on eBay for sale and then seems to hide behind the fact that 1971 GSX's are so hard to document and 'creative' uses of words in the advertisement. Questions to Seller: I appreciate your response, but I still don't understand a couple of issues. First, the advertisement clearly states that this is a 1971 Buick GSX and your response indicates that some effort has been made to substantiate this car as genuine, but for other reasons it cannot be substantiated as what it is advertised as - a 1971 Buick GSX. The data tag in the ad appears to show a different exterior color (than code 75 red) and interior trim (brown) as opposed to black in the photos. Can you confirm this information and provide a clear explanation about what appears to be an exterior color change and interior trim change on this car? Thanks in advance, I know you are a Dealer and should have a lot of resources to verify information about the vehicles that your company advertises, irrespective of what information (or lack thereof) the actual owner has provided you. I just want to learn more about the authenticity before bidding.
The assembly manual states FLINT ONLY, and so do all the dealer bulletins on the GSX. In other words, ALL documentation points to GSXs being built at Flint only. You would need CONCRETE evidence of other plants as this is a HUGE burden to overcome (which no one has to date)... <img src="http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=92386&d=1177377573">
Yeah, but his Firend's cousin's brother-in-law told him that some GSX's may have been in Framingham. He's covered...
This isn't even worth talking about. The bottom line is if a vehicle received any of the GSX options then the car had to be made in Flint. That means if a 71-72 GS came with a rear spoiler it was built in Flint. Duane
