I can get a 71 SR 455 for $100. Been sittin' indoors. Probably needs overhauled. I'll probably get it since it has all accesories including the 800 Q jet. So whats a 71 SR anyway? 8-1 motor? :Do No:

    Dan,

    71 engines start with T

    TR 455-4
    TS 455 Stage 1
    TA 455-4 Riviera

    SR is a 70 455

    woops...I overlooked that minor detail:Dou:

I saw the "71" and automatically assumed...

Shows you what can happen when you "assume".

    My motor is coded TA

O yeah :puzzled: That would have good compression eh? It's got a 71 carb anyway. I guess thats all subject to being changed at some point in its life. Also, the SR code is on the driver side of the block near where it meets the head between #5 and 7.

Since it is a '70 does that code still have the same compression as the '71? Yeah nice price!!

    Thanks

Oh, thanks, I thought I had seen somewhere that '70 455's(for buicks) possessed a higher comp. ratio but I wasn't for sure.

    SF are 10.5:1
    SR are 10.0:1
    SS are 10.5:1

I thought the assembly manual said that the SF was 10:1. It doesn't matter to much to me. My SF has forged pistons now.

    Dan,
If you don't want it, I'll take it!! Seriously, I will!
