Are the GS air cleaner assemblies the same size for a 1971 350 vs. 455? In looking at replacement filters there seems to be a size difference in diameter as well as height (12" vs 14" OD and 2.5 vs 3" Height). If there is a difference, can the 455 GS air cleaner assembly be used on a 350 GS set up?

The same...air filter is a AC/Delco A212CW or equivalent other brands.

Air cleaner has a different ride height on a 350 compared to a 455, thus the different
snorkel foams that seal the cleaner to the hood grilles.

But note the 70-71 cleaner is different from the 72...

    What difference is there from a 70 to the 71 - 72?
I thought 70-71 were the same with two rectangular snorkels and the 72 was different with one side of the snorkel rectangular and the other side diamond shaped.

'72 had the odd-shaped driver side unit because of the california cars having to have air recirc pump installed from the factory if the car was to sold in california..

I guess I have the larger air cleaner as I know it came off a 455. Will there be any clearance or gap issues mating to the hood grills using the 455 air cleaner on a 350??

With a stock intake and Qjet carb you should be fine. As stated, the foam 350 hood snorkel seals are taller than the 455 seals but still will work. 455 sits higher than 350 in engine compartment) The taller seals just smash down a little more over time.

A212cw is 14"x3". It corsses over to a Fram CA136, but the Fram isnt quite the same outer diameter.

I have a TA intake with a Qjet and just bought seals from Year One. They only came one size.

I think there's some confusion about 'air filter' and 'GS air cleaner foam seals'

As far as I know all air cleaners are created equal.
The height difference should only be in the foam seals, as a 350 is a bit smaller, the seals are a bit taller to meet the hood when closed.

I got my last air filter at Autozone, no issues, it fit. Brand was STP I believe.

    YearOne shows 4 seals.
    2 for 350, 2 for 455

If the 350/455 air cleaner is the same size how or why would the 350 seal be smaller? The 350 seals from Year One only say they are tall and the 455 seals indicate they are short. At the time of my order they were unable to provide the foam height differences for me so I bought the taller 350 ones hoping they would fit on the 455 air cleaner.

As far as for the air filters, the K&N part# E1650 says it for a 455 GS and 3.063" tall, part# E1450 says it for a 350 GS and is 2.5" tall.

My air cleaner ended up taking the 3" filter, now I hope the seals meet the plates, everthing fits properly and we'll be good to go.

    hey Steve
The foam seals are the dimensionally the same (350 and 455) except in height.
350 being taller because the top of the motor is lower in the engine bay. 455 being shorter because the motor is taller and closer to the hood.

Thats what I thought. I should be good to go with the 350 foams I ordered.

    Thanks for the input Curtis.

Hopefully I'll see ya at the BOP. Car went into the shop yesterday for the tranny and gear change.
