Have a 1971 350 Skylark converted to 4bbl from 2bbl. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the stock distributors on a 2bbl car and 4bbl car?

    Thanks-

Thanks Devon. My total adv is way to high-50+ at higher rpms with initial at 14. I did change the vac adv to correct one for 4bbl. Adv comes in right(32deg) around at 2200 rpms but then keeps going up. I may have to find a new distributor or get this one rebuilt-it's not behaving....and yes I have read Larry's thread and followed the guidelines!

You are of course checking with the vacuum advance plugged off, right?

The only other thing is the rubber limiting bushing underneath the advance plate is missing.

You didn't mention changing the advance springs. The factory springs will have to rev higher than any aftermarket spring to finally get all the advance in.

I guess my question didn't include enough info-replaced the balancer cause the old one fell apart. Installed a good used one. Timing mark lined up with what I THOUGHT was TDC but according to my timing light it was cranking at 28 deg btdc....so have made a piston stop and am going to hopefully find the correct spot on the balancer for tdc.

Rebuilt the dist-buying a new recurving kit and starting over with the timing. Right now it runs but can't figure out real prob until I fix the basics. Larry showed me ho to make the piston stop and determine tdc-will up date.

Car still runs pretty good-son just commented how the rear passenger tire doesn't have hardly any tread and that old Skylarks can keep up with a newer Porsche in a "little" race...Hmmm.
