Very Interesting find... it's getting hard to find something that's NOT just a Parts Car, These Days.!! Jim
In 1970 all small block GS 350, Big Block GS 455 and GS Stage 1 cars came standard with manual drum brakes, optional were Power Drum Brakes and optional again Power Disc brakes. Starting in 1971 thru 1974 all Big Block GS 455 or GS Stage 1 /73-74 Gran Sport cars came standard with Power disc brakes.
So I assume that this car probably has an open rear as well. I asked the seller. No reply yet. I just bid on it I think it’s cheap where it’s at price wise.
Limited slip diff was standard with all Stage 1s. Since it has A/C it would have left Flint with 3.42 gears.
1 owner didn't do it any favors, that's kind of a non factor. Does look like a decent start for a restoration, especially if you're in the rust belt. The blue FB car for 10k was a better buy, this probably ends up in the 30's?
Stunningly original car in this day and age(?!) Looks to still have both original front fenders, the original punch holes on the driver side for the emblems - and proper original emblem placement on the passenger side, wow, never see that. Under hood shot is a thing of beauty, I’m not as sharp on some of the details as some of you guys are, but boy, she sure looks untouched. I can see some type of vacuum line, going from the drivers front up into the carburetor area under the air cleaner, will a California car have a charcoal canister/evap system? I was also surprised to see the plastic radiator top plate, my Fremont car of the same year is metal, would that be correct on this ebay stage1 being a Flint car? Looks to still have the original unobtainium embossed air cleaner decals and has the trim ring 14s too! Steve weim55 Colorado
Steve, This is (from what we can see) an "early build" car. Hence, the plastic radiator cover and clear overflow. If your car's build date is around/after the 2nd week of January, the metal cover is correct. California car would have the charcoal cannister.
Yes, the vacuum line to the air cleaner is part of the California Emissions option. The nipple on the bottom of the air cleaner where the hose attaches is a fairly rare item these days, and appears to be intact and functional on this example. Fairly unmolested car from all apprearances.
Looked at a 70 Stage 1 in Troy NY about 10 years ago. Car was brown from California and the Uncle sent it to the kid here. It was apart with heads and distributor in the trunk. Had column shift automatic , no disc brakes and an open rear. Guy said his uncle bought it new and it came that way. Numbers carb and distributor in the trunk. Super solid brown car but the interior was trashed. Could have had it for 4000. I think it went to Canada from there. That’s why I assumed they came limited slip or open.
