Completely restored 1970 8.2” Buick 2:73 posi rearend. The housing, cover, and backing plates were blasted and powder-coated. There is minor pitting in a few areas, but overall very nice. The 2:73 gears are mint and have a perfect pattern. New Tru Trac posi unit that I machined and modified to fit the Buick 8.2”. Timken bearings/seals. All assembled, filled with 85/140 conventional oil,and ready to run. Price is $1100.00 plus freight,or pick up in Erie,PA. Nice cruiser rear that will leave to black stripes and hold up to the Buick 455.
    I do have this cross-posted.

Longshot, I would be in for 3:23 or 3:42 8.2 posi rear.

    Stage2iron,
So would half of this board. If there were new gears available,I would have built this with a 3:42 or 3:64. The only other option is to find a rotted rear with good gears in it. I occasionally find some 3:23’s and do the same thing. Sold one on here in two months ago.

I know small block lesabres came with the 8.2. I wonder if they were geared lower? Maybe 3.08s or 3.23s were standard?

Any chance this will swap right into a 68 442 with a 455?

If your 68 442 still has the original O-axle and matching driveshaft, you would likely have to shorten the shaft a hair, depending on how exact it was originally. I’ve seen them vary 1/4” for the exact same application. If it’s on the long side now, then yes,it will need shortened. As far as all of the mounting points go,it’s the same.

We have a 69 8.2 with stage 2 478 gears. Not quite sure where it’s going yet or what it’s even worth. It drove around all Summer in a 68 442 while the original rear was being rebuilt.

You just need to make sure the transmission yoke can move freely,in and out during suspension travel. If the driveshaft is too long,it can potentially bottom-out in the trans.

one would hope, but they were 2.93 in 68. I just picked up a parts car- 68 LeSabre convertible with so many options- maybe they ticked the box for posi? Nope, I was a wee bit disappointed. Only hope are 3 on the tree LeSabres. As if.

3 on the tree LeSabres weren't abundant:)? At least they came w/a 350 4BBL as standard (I think - at least in '70) so in theory there are a few more 7040245 carbs floating around out there than one might expect. Could you get LeSabre w/a 400/455 & 3 on the tree?
