Little help please...I am working on my recently purchased 70 skylark and previous owner cut out the metal part of the dash where the radio is supposed to be. I need to fabricate a metal plate to hold original radio. Hoping I could get a template from someone with the correct placements for original radio to fit. Knob holes, square cut out etc. Thanks. Dave

Do you mean the radio bezel? that is a plastic piece, you can buy a new/used bezel on here. Just ask in the parts wanted section.

No. I have radio and plastic plate that you have in photo. The actual metal part of the dashboard has been cut out and is a big rectangle. Previous owner put in a modern stereo and cut out the metal part of the dash with a hack saw. I would like to weld in a new piece to fit original radio with cut out for holes for the radio and knob holes (on-off volume and tuner) to use nut to hold radio in place. A nut goes on the on-off and tuner that extends through plate to hold radio.
    Thanks for responding.

The radio hole is a large rectangular hole. The faceplate has the holes for the radio knobs. Sound like you need a section of metal dash cut out of a parts car.

Might be good if you could post a picture of what you have. That way if someone has a parts car, they'll get an idea of how much and where they need to cut

Don't forget you should have a bracket from the factory underneath the radio as well to support it

You should be able to get a piece of body metal at an Auto Body shop or supplier.

That hole is factory. Looks like the only thing missing are the two flat vertical tabs at the bottom where the two studs on the lower part of the radio go through.

Are the tabs removable or were they cut off?

They were cut off. Im surprised they cut them off. Most of the time I see them just bent back. You may be able to get away with mounting the radio without them. The radio bracket supports the majority of the radio weight and the plastic faceplate should be able to secure the rest.

If you get a section from another car, it should be a pretty easy repair to trim the donor tabs to fit and weld them back on. You might even be able to use 1/8" pop rivets as the radio faceplate will cover the small rivet heads

Thanks for the info. I couldn't believe they were cut off either. Looking for donor car or some one to draw a template.

If no one else steps up, I can take some pictures of my car and give you some measurements. I probably wont be able to get to it till the weekend though

I know of a complete dash panel available, however, it seems like you have plenty of donors local to you. If you need - let me know.
