If truly no rust (ever!) It'd be worth buying to cut up & use as a sheetmetal donor for that '70 Stage 1 4-sp project.
This just my 2cents as I have no knowledge about the skylark or interest in it. I hope I ask this right with out offending anyone I don’t understand why someone would want to cut up a orig sheet metal car solid car to make a pieced together stage? Is it about just money? Cause it’s sure not about preserving history. I know a skylark compared to a stage are at opposite ends of the value scale but would one with huge metal replaced bring top dollar ? If I had a stage to restore I’m sure I could find loose solid sheet metal elsewhere for a total of 26 k ( asking price) with out destroying another classic. I just think some orig cars should live if that’s truly what they are.
It would be a shame, but guessing this particular Skylark has its own story with half 70/ half 71 interior.
No offense taken & tbh, I'm not suprised my post could be taken as offensive. There may very well be a better sheetmetal donor candidate out there. I was fortunate enough to aquire a rust-free convertible shell to cut up & use as a donor for my '71 GS convertible's resto. I honestly doubt anyone would drop $20k (assuming it could be bought for that) on this Skylark to destroy it to save that Stage 1 4-sp project, but a case could be made to do so based on time, money, and rarity. One of 67 (or 232 depending upon how you look @ it) vs. 1 of 5000 (or however many '70 Skylark convertibles were made), the time to hunt down all the parts, and the money that"d be spent to aquite all those parts. It wouldn't be the 1st time a nice Skylark has been sacrificed to save a GS but I certainly understand & am sympathetic to your sentiment.
