Hello folks was wondering the parts avalibility for front disk brakes on a buick GS350 are these around local parts supply guy? or calipers and rotors able too get? from who? thanks too all the great members out there best site going for sure learned so much :beer
those parts are easy to find about anywhere. I bought my stuff at Rockauto.com There is also a good selection of rotors and pads. edit: I never heard of two piece disks on a 70 a-body .
Good luck on the 2 piece rotors I do not know if anyone repops them. The one piece rotors will work for the 70 however.
I know Kleiner had new rotors (only) for the 2-piece rotor assemblies. I believe you had to re-use your old hubs. Tough item to find, I grab originals when I see them. Duane
OK, The original design for the front disc rotors had a hub assembly with a removable rotor. The hubs have a flange cast into them and the rotor bolted flush with the flange. I guess the thought process was it was cheaper to replace just the rotor instead of the whole thing. Anyway, late in the 70 production year (The Chevelle guys pegged the change over at the end of March/beginning of April 1970) GM switched over to a one piece rotor assembly. When we judge the Concours cars we check the 70 car build dates and look for the 2-piece rotors. Also the one piece rotors should have "cooling" grooves cut into them, and we look for this also. When Mark Reeves, of Then & Now Restorations who did a beautiful job restoring my 71 GSX, put new rotors on my car I had him send the rotors to a machine shop and cut the grooves in. Back to the subject at hand, due to use, the 2-piece rotors are hard to find and are sought after by the "show" people. I have one car that requires them and have put a couple extras aside for it. These are also not for sale. I hope this answers everyone's questions about rotors. Duane
I was wonder who is kleiner and does anyone have contact for the person, place regarding two piece rotors? thanks
Thank you for taking the time to write that :TU: I've always been a fan of a separate hub and rotor not only because it's cheaper but it's a lot faster to do a brake job. I wonder why they switched? Also this leads to two more questions. What model year did the two piece hub appear? In the 1970 assembly manual there is a drawing dated 1/16/69 that shows the one piece hub/rotor assembly. Had GM switched to the one piece deal January 1969 and it took until April 1970 to use up the stock of two piece hub/rotors?
Are the rotors off a 68 to 70 Pontiac Grand Prix the same as Buick A body with 4 piston calipers? I know of a set of 2 piece rotors in a yard.
The phone number for Dave Kleiner/GS Enterprises is 608-763-2076 The picture of page 5-6.1 that you posted looks like one of the 2-piece rotor assemblies. The date of the drawing is not 1/16/69 but 8/20/69. That is the date of the last revision of that page (revision "J") and is called out in the revision block at the top right hand corner of the page. (The 1/16/69 date is when the drawing was first used.) If you look at the drawing the "J" is also calling out the fact that two optional disc brake rotors were available. This may show that the single piece rotor may have been used, at some plants, as early as Sept of 69, but I would want to look further into this to confirm that. I also believe the Gran Prix rotors are the same as on our buicks. Duane
:Smarty: Thanks again. Duane. You have to love the people of V8Buick. :TU: I can't help but be interested in the fine details and history.
