WOW! Looking great! I had to replace both quarters on my Skylark, and it wasn't fun! Lots of body work! But it came out well and I am happy with it. Good luck!

The reproduction lower trunk floor extensions required some re-working to fit.. but Adam was able to make them work. At this point, the quarter panels have been test-fitted on and off many times to make sure all the attachment points are correct.

Here, the driver quarter panel is being test fitted and eventually welded in place. The panel attaches to the car's structure all the way around its perimeter, and will be attached with traditional plug welds and resistance spot welds where ever possible.

Great work. What are you using to do the spot welding?

, we use several resistance spot welders in the shop, and traditional plug-welding techniques where needed.

Thanks for the info on the spot welder.

Did you attach the quarter panel to the car before you did the trunk drop off? In one photo I can where you mocked up the quarter without the drop off

The factory used a maroon colored sealer between the body panels.

The spot welds were then done. The excess sealer was squeezed out when the panels were welded.

I have never seen any resto shop use sealer between the panels.

I know this as one of my first jobs was welding wheelhouses in the pit......:spank:

Thanks Kevin. Great info. Also, a friend of mine told me to leave the out wheel houses loose until I get the quarter lined up exactly where I want it. I noticed you welded yours in solid. How was the fit from the wheel house to the quarters? I'm assuming those are the AMD (Then And Now) outer wheel houses?

Awesome thread, and please keep the updates coming.

The dropoffs and the quarters all kinda came together at once, the next set of photos will illustrate.

    Thank you, you're welcome!

We are not convinced you can get a proper weld with sealer between the panels. After we finish the metalwork, we apply a variety of seam sealers to all the seams. Sometimes we tape off the path of the sealer and make it smooth and crisp, others we apply looking like original. It all depends on what the customer wants.

That is good advise. Depending on how the pieces fit, we usually leave them loose and test fit everything, then weld the wheel houses together, then attach them to quarters. These fit nicely to the quarter wheel opening. They are AMD.

    Thanks! Will do!

It looks like some change was made to the board settings... it's not liking the codes anymore... anyone know anything?
