I am posting this thread as suggested by Duane in another conversation> I am hoping that there are a bunch of guys and gals out there that have 1970 GS cars with standard interior and they can post some pictures of their cars' interiors. There has been much debate in several other threads about arm rest sizes, chrome trim, fabric patterns, chrome vs. plastic trim pieces. I am also rebuilding a 70 GS with standard interior and want to make sure I get my car back to original. Mine is a #124 sandalwood interior. I would love to see pictures of other cars. Pictures on door panels, headliners, package trays, headrests, back seat inserts, sail panels, courtesy lights etc.
Basically all of the items that are different than the Deluxe/Custom interior

Thank you for the help. This would be REALLY helpful.

So if you have a standard interior, does that mean you have the dome light on the roof? Just asking because I saw in another thread that

dome light = standard interior and Sail pane lights = deluxe interior. I wanted to see if that was true.

I have a 70 GS stage 1 and have the sail panel lights. Assuming it had the original interior in it when I bought it in 2001 the I can show pictures of that to rule out what a deluxe interior looks like. It was rough. I haven’t restored it yet. In process of putting dash and wiring back in.

my car is code 124 standard sandalwood. Would love to see pictures of other cars with standard interiors. Pictures of short vs. long armrests, etc.
Is there also a difference in the GS emblems in the door panels????

    Yes,
The door panel emblems are completely different, as well as the designs on the door panels and the seats.

Also the 70 STD interior cars have no carpets on the kick panels and come with short front armrests.

I had a Coronet gold 70 gs with no options . poverty caps , Flintstone brakes, Armstrong steering , plain sandlewood bench interior with dome light short armrests and skylark emblems on door trim. No options at all. Unless you count am radio. I still have the interior minus the bench seat and the manual steering box and batman steering wheel. I swapped out the interior for a white 70 gs bucket seat and floor shift waffle interior.

Do you have a picture of the short front armrests. I am looking to see if they have the chrome strips in them.

I don't have a picture but I think the armrests do not have the Chrome strip.

That is what I remembered from the 70 Stage 1 I owned years ago with a standard interior.

I have had people questioning me about that but wanted to confirm.

As far as I know all GM a-bodies with std interiors came with no chrome pieces in the armrests. Only deluxe interiors had them.

Here's a picture I found on the web of the Standard interior of the Tom Rix's 70 stage one with the stage two package. IMG_4249.PNG

So let's say I wanted to order an interior package from someone like Legendary. If I tell them I have a standard interior Sandalwood color I will get all the right armrests and headliner and door panels and emblems? The pictures sent in here are really helpful. I would love to see a side by side of the 2 styles of armrests and the 2 styles of door panel emblems, etc.

I do not know how Legendary sells their parts, and if they even sell door panel emblems, but below is your information.

The "GS" door panel emblems for the 70 deluxe interiors are just the letters GS.

The 70 Standard interiors have a rectangular emblem with the "GS" letters embossed into it. They look like the 71 GS door panel emblems, and might be the same ones, if not they are very close in appearance.

Someone here should have a pic out of a catalog to show you the differences.

    The armrests look like armrests.

    For 1970 Buick a-bodies
The 70 Buick Std interior used the regular 12" armrests that were on every Chevy/Pontiac/Olds/Buick with standard interiors. They are all over the place.

The 70 Buick Deluxe interior used the longer 16" armrests that came on Big cars, like Impalas, and had a chrome strip running in the recessed area in the middle.

    For 1971-72 Buick a-bodies
The same type of thing happened for 71-72, but they were all the shorter 12" armrests.

If you have a 71-72 Deluxe interior, you can use a regular set of 12" armrests and put the chrome strip in them to make them a deluxe set. It's very easy to do.

This should answer all your 70-72 questions about armrests.

PS. The only exception to the above info that I know of was with some 68 Chevelles. Some of them were ordered with a deluxe interior, and when that was done, they came from the factory with the Deluxe 68 Buick interiors. These cars would have had the longer 16" armrests instead of the shorter 12" ones that all their brothers had.

There you are, an original 70 Standard black door panel set with 12" armrests without the chrome.
    Dano should see this.

The picture you have of the blue interior is (I am sure) from my old Stage 1 4-speed car. I put those "armrests with the chrome strips in" as that was all I had at the time. The original armrests for that car were so "chalky" you could dig right thru them with your fingernail, so I had to replace them.

Also notice, there are no chrome hockey sticks down the sides of the bench seats, but they have short plastic covers at the bottom to hide the hinge piece. That is also a standard interior thing......................and no carpets on the kick panels.

I found a couple old pictures of my interior from when I bought the car in 2001 (guessing deluxe - never knew there was a difference until now). It's pretty tore up. Front seats have covers on them. Holes everywhere.

I don't have any build sheets for the car as the one I found on the gas tank was for a different car built 2 days before mine. The only info I have is Wayne's GS Historical Society paperwork and that doesn't list a deluxe interior option. Not sure if it should or shouldn't.
