The 1970 GS455 I once owned is now for sale. It's been in a private collection for some time. You may have seen this car at Bowling Green back in the late 90's, early 2000's. Many more pictures are on the website. https://www.duncanimports.com/used/Buick/1970-Buick-Gran+Sport-bdd059fa0a0e08ba7d95ee8fd61e68ad.htm
Gulfstream Blue, blue interior. Took me forever to find that blue 16 inch thumb groove steering wheel.
I sold the car in 2000. I can tell you my experience with it but couldn't guess what has happened since. Mileage was in the low 70's when I got it. The car ran like it is supposed to, straight and strong, no issues whatsoever. No rust when I owned it. The AC needed a charge when I sold it. Things I changed while in my possession: Brake booster replated Replaced the Radiator overflow tank with NOS Switched from AM to AM/FM radio Replaced standard steering wheel with sport steering wheel Added the 8-track player with original harness Replaced dash decals with a set made by Greg Setter (the good stuff) I do know the person I sold it to added the passenger side view mirror. This is just my opinion but I think it's priced at the very top of the market for a '70 GS455. Is it a fair price? That would be up to the buyer to decide. And I have a sneaky feeling the current owner is not going to dicker much. Good luck if you decide to pursue it.
If you’re looking for a keeper and really like this one, the peace of mind that some history and firsthand knowledge provides might be worth paying a little extra. A lot of people (some on here) have bought cars that cost a lot to fix once they got them home. That’s my opinion, it and a fiver will get you an expensive cup of coffee. Patrick
I remember looking at this car and drove it back in 2005 when Lee Smith in Shawsville Virginia had it for sale at his small car lot. I remember the car ran pretty strong and it showed nice - bumpers and chrome were showing age and were pitted back then but overall was a nice car. I do remember back then it needed some things done to it but it’s been awhile. I backed away because of the car lots reputation and glad I did - I can’t say I know anything about where it’s at now even though I grew up in that area. I think that’s a way too much for that car - just my opinion. I wouldn’t give more than $30k to $32k for it.
Thanks Patrick .I am really looking for a 70 455 that does not need too muck work . I like to drive some distances not just to local car shows
This car needs NO work. I'd guess fluid changes is all. When I saw the car 3-4 years ago, it was in exceptional condition. If this is in fact the car Tom saw, any issues have been corrected. I don't recall any issues with the bumpers when I let it go in 2000. Can't imagine they would be pitted 5 years later because I know it was garage kept and babied during that time by the person I sold it to.
I’ll say this, if I had an extra $40K laying around, I might throw it at him to see if he would bite.
Maybe it’s a different car - that was 15 years ago and I just remember where the trunk water drips on the rear bumper, in that valley area, it was faded and pitted. Not a big deal but I was more turned off by Lee and glad I waited to get my Stage 1 4 speed car - that car was exactly what I wanted in the end. Curious, your Rosewood Stage car - did you get it out of PA? If it’s the same car, I remember I almost got that car - I love the color...They didn’t make many that color in a Stage1
