Im doing a frame off on a 1970 Buick GS S1. When installing the driveshaft today I noticed the rear universal joint needed to be fitted into the rear differential yoke to make it centered. Essentially, I eye balled the universal joint to make sure it was centered before tightening the u-bolts. It seems that this procedure leaves open the chance that the universal joint could be off-center creating a problem. I vaguely remember years ago that the rear universal joint cap had a lip on it which centered the universal joint with the yoke. Am I imaging this or do I have the wrong rear universal joint fitted to the driveshaft? Any thoughts or ideas on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the reply. Turns out, the u-joint needs to have external c-clips on both ends that essentially "cradle" the u-joint in the yoke.
