where do I find the vin numbers on a 1970 350 block. are they on the deck or the front of block. trying to verify numbers matching block and heads. thanks chris
My 70 GS has the SP 350. Back of the block has numbers just below the intake on the bell housing. Heads have numbers under the valve covers and have letter stamps between the plugs like "SP" for example. Hope this helps! Matt
Your 70 vin should be located on the front of the engine block, behind the power steering pump just below the head surface (not on the deck of the block as the 455's were in 70).

found the vin, a ok. sp block but some damage next to it, musta been some factory stuff. still had the steel gaskets on it when I disassembled it first time, this is second time. thought the vin was after sp. so I'm ok, still has original engine. heads and carb match a number from nhra site under blue printing. still this 350 is a dud. got a 455, needs complete rebuild and 454 rebuilt and runs well.
