I'm wondering if the crank pulley, alternator bracket and fan is identical for a 70 350 non air car and a 72 350 non air car.

Some versions are short waterpump pulley alignment and other are for the longer waterpump. Not sure what year the swap was made, anyone else know?

The problem i'm having is that my car had an aftermarket air conditioner unit on it. Then my water pump broke and I sent it off to get rebuilt and at that time decided I didn't want the ugly aftermarket A/C unit on the car so took it off. I used the alternator bracket off a 70 skylark and it lines up with the crank pulley but now the water pump pulley doesn't line up (sticks out to far ~ 5/8 of an inch)
    Need some help
    Thanks,

Not sure whats going on there but lets strat with some measurements. How far is the alt. mounted from the from surface of the head to center of belt? Try to use a straight edge or ruler to get us some measurements and we can try to measure our setups and compare notes.

5/8 of an inch is WAY to small amount to make this an issue of long vs short waterpumps from what I remember it was 2 inches or so between them.

Well i think i might have it figured out. I found an old 72 water pump and the flang to bolt on the fan is pushed on the water pump shaft further. Attached is a picture to show what i mean. The rebuild i got is only pushed on half way. I sent the water pump back and hope i get the right one this time.

Did they make two different offsets for 1972 engines.

No differences between 72 units, I think it was a reman error.
