I would like to thank Ziggy (Tom Z) for looking this car over for me yesterday- as I was expecting to purchase it. Based on a missing Stage carb and what appears to be a 'service replacement' engine (NO VIN or RS code- but a E9H01101 stamp on the pad - that shared NOT a single number with the VIN), I passed. However, the car is mostly untouched, rot free and needs a good restoration.

    Good luck!!

    George,
Sorry for your Loss I thought that was the one. It sure looked like a nice complete project when I message you about it.

Tony- it is complete.. However, the block and carb... Add on ALL of the pot metal (pitted), bumpers (rusty), engine (rust IN the engine), moldy interior, etc, etc.. On the plus side, there IS documentation (POP, other) in which proves the Stage 1 pedigree....

Thanks for posting. I was high bidder for a while. I knew of the carb, but not the rest. George what are you looking for?

    Hi guys,
I took a hard look at this car, and was really impressed with the originality of everything on it. Sadly, the pot metal and interior, as well as all the chrome are going to need attention, and wouldn't have if the car was stored in dry rather than wet conditions. On the plus side, the body is in remarkably good condition, and the cash that would have had to go into sheet metal can be allocated to other needs. Darn shame its not numbers matching, but would be an outstanding project for someone that can live with it. The current owners are real nice people, and car people to boot, and were very honest about the condition of this car.

Thanks for the mention George, it was a great day for a ride, and I needed a break from work so its all good. BTW take a look at your email. I sent you a link to another 69 Stage 1 car.

    Tom

    George,
Let me remind you of a recent post, where the author whole heatedly advised against the practice of restoring old cars, based upon his current experience with basket case cars.
Have we taught you nothing grasshopper :Dou:

I was very disappointed in the communications I had (or should I say didn't have) with the seller. I'm very frustrated right now! And a little upset to say the least. :Dou:

    Seller on 9/5:

I'm going to sell the 69 buick gs 400 stage 1 car.I'm located near Reading Pa.I'm going to list it on ebay this weekend.Car is not running due to it's been sitting since 1983.Not sure of what to ask for it.610 207 xxxx

I call him immediately and we have great conversation on the car. Then he doesn't answer repeated phone calls or PM's and puts it on the internet anyway. Can anyone deal square these days? At the very least he could have let me know he was listing it. I didn't know it was on eBay until yesterday. Hopefully, it will at least go to a good home since it sure as hell isn't going to mine.

Mike...I'm excited for you, that car certainly lit my fire. Although I was very disappointed in the seller, I am happy that the car is coming to Kentucky and a step-child lover has it! Congrats. As far as the future, if you can't sell Fireglow and want to flip this one, give me a shout. When it comes to old Buick iron, I'm a strong believer in fate. :beer

Did you look at it prior or have anyone go look at it? I checked it out twice. Did you know that there was a quart of water in the oil when they drained it? I hope that the 30 years of PA winters didn't crack the motor. They also didn't post any pics of the horror under the valve covers. Completely rusted. The passenger floor pan seemed brittle enough for an 80 year old grandma to punch a hole through. I stopped by after it rained and the inside left rear window deck was wet. So was the front right dash. However what scared me away was although there was no rot on the outside the undercarriage was a mess with rot inside the rear quarters. The only plus was the interior was in good condition and all the lights worked. Good luck with it and hope to see pics of it when finished.

Way to go on this car Mike.

I think this 69 GS Stage 1 is a fantastic, very original, very rare car.

Put it in perspective, this is a 45 year old car, of course it will have a few issues, this is as good as it gets on Buicks top dog offering for 1969.

Mike has the right open good attitude towards this car ,well done.

I can't speak for anybody else but I think that this car is a good deal. They aren't making Stage 1 cars anymore. I think that considering the condition of the car, there is plenty of room left to come out on top. I always look at supposed original stage cars or even big block cars that are at best worn out 350 cars. Hope that you do well with it
