Picked up a 1969 Riviera. Very nice car, but there are some issues with the A/C controls and the trunk release does not work. When the car is on you can hear vac hiss under the dash. Put my hand up there and a line fell out so I will be pulling stuff apart to reconnect things to the A/C controls. The heater control valve on the heater core line was removed by one of the previous owners, so I ordered one and plugged the vac line that goes to it. I know the trunk release is prone to issues, but I would like to take a stab at trying to get it to work. Not really seeing much about it in the manual.

The car was converted to electric motors for the lights and lines cut and plugged going to the drivers fender large vac tank. I know there is a canister on the firewall for AC/Heater controls (passenger side of engine towards middle) but looking at the shop 1969 manual it looks like one may be by the drivers side fender along with the large one? Are there supposed to be 2 small ones and one large tank?

It looks to me like the trunk release line comes from the large tank in the fender and runs through the FW to the switch. Does that sound accurate?

    Thanks for the help

Sorry I meant to post this in the regular not the race one.

My Wildcat has a canister behind the center of the engine. The Trunk Vac release comes off the canister through a hose that comes through the firewall. That vacuum leak will impact engine performance.

Performance is slightly diminished but nothing too noticable.... but yes that is why I want to fix it, and I want the AC/heat and all to work properly as well. I suspect you have one canister and no tank in the fender since your wildcat does not have hideaway headlights.

This is what I am talking about in the manual. Is this a second small canister or is it just the same single one showing in a different spot?

My 68 has the large and small one under the L fender but nothing over on the heater control side. You can test the trunk release but sucking on the hose directly connected to the actuator. Remove the glove box liner and access the switch and hoses

Thanks Briz seems like there is only one small canister then which makes me feel better. Do you have A/C in the 68? I was worried the second one was pulled out. I will take the glove box line out and check to see if the hose is plugged into the button. I reached up where the bulb is because the cover is gone and it did not seem like anything was connected. Maybe I was mistaken though.

Pulled the ashtray out and found a vac line disconnected from the back of the controls. The pink lined one. It goes to the left of the green lined one. I was not able to get it back on but there is no vac draw on it anyway. A bit difficult to get my hand in there.

Edit..pink line reconnected to the back of the A/C controls.

Pulled the glove box insert out. 2 vac lines sitting there disconnected. One with vac pull on it. yay...trunk release works! Still hear vac hiss when car is running though :( maybe it is that one line that randomly fell out. I am just not sure where it goes. If the actual canister on the FW was bad would you be able to hear the hiss from it inside the cabin? I wouldn't think you would be able to because of the engine noise and the FW in between.

Also...when I pulled out the glove box this fell out. I think its the amp for the radio. Any ideas where it is supposed to be mounted?

My 68 does have the standard A/C. It does not however have a amp for the radio. It did come with the stereo Duplex box. Have no idea what that little bent wire does. Maybe goes behind a screw to hold wires and or a hose up and out of the way. To troubleshoot all Vac stuff I use a vac pump connected to the main feed hose off the engine. Its quiet enough to track down the source of that hiss without running the engine

Figured it out. There is a black vacuum hose that comes in from the canister on the FW that has a T on it and plugs into two spots the master vacuum switch, and water valve on the AC controls. It is unplugged from both. That vac line that fell out was one of those connections. I plugged it up for now until I get the chance to get in there to plug it in correctly. Thanks everyone

I was able to get the water valve vac line connected so I now have vac to the heater control valve vac line. The valve itself was removed completely by a previous owner (not the person I purchased from) so I always have heat. I picked up a new one and tested to make sure it pulls the valve open to allow coolant flow only when the temp control is slid all the way over to the right for heat. Will put in in the next couple of days. Then will test to see if the A/C works.

That part that fell out is the vacume assist crossover amplifier, a rare piece.
