I need some advice from someone who has installed rear coil springs in a '68 or '69 Riviera. What have you used and been satisfied/unsatisfied with? I was thinking of installing Moog CC503 heavy duty variable rate springs. Your input, please. Thanks.

I used Moog Cargo Coils in mine a long time ago, and I'm very satisfied with them. It was such a long time ago I don't remember the part #, but basically just put them in without connecting the lower shock mounts and set it down to see how it sets. If you think it's too low than go to a stiffer spring. If I'm not mistaken I think the springs I used were supposed to fit an Olds 88 b/c there was no listing for the '67 Riv. Most RWD GM full size cars from that era use springs that are very similar, the only difference is the stiffness. As long as they fit and the height turns out the way you like it that's all that matters. Just stay about 1/2" or so on the high side b/c they will settle very slightly after a while. :TU:

Like Joe - I had my rear springs replaced a long time ago at a Midas shop.
The springs they installed (MOOG, don't remember no.) were too stiff, and jacked up the rear of the car so high
    - it had that 'California rake' appearance.
I had them change out the supposedly correct Riviera coils for softer Cadillac ones which were the same size,
but allowed the car to sit relatively level, without affecting the ride. :TU:

I had my rear springs replaced this year with direct replacements from Eaton Detriot Spring. They shipped the same day I ordered them, and arrived in two business days. They were around $175 shipped for the pair. Currently the car sits a frction of an inch high in the rear, but as noted in the previous thread, once they "settle in" the car will sit dead level. I am very pleased with the results, as I was very concerned with an inappropriate ride height while I investigated my options prior to purchase.

Welcome to v8buick Dan - a very nice '68 by the way !
How about some more pics (after you get your 10 posts in),
. . . you could say I'm a little partial to that year.
Sorry for going 'off topic'. :beer :TU:

    Hi Randy,

You and I have "talked" over on the BCA/ROA forum before, which is where I spend most of my time lurking. I've since discovered this forum, which seems to be geared more towards performance minded discussions.

As you noted I do not have a lot of posts, but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on the spring question as I went through the same agony with my car over what to do earlier this year.

Nice hearing from you, I'm sure we'll be talking.

    Dan
