    1969 Pontiac Bonneville: 2 door H.T. 428 car - Videos inside!

Hi everyone, here is my story.

I am selling my 1969 Pontiac Bonneville. This was a project car I bought around a year ago with plans to restore it and use it in my wedding as a getaway car.

Sadly, plans changed. I didn't have near enough time and money to restore it before the big day (June 9th, 2012). I found my Electra for a killer deal so we are now using the Buick instead.

Anyways, here is what I know about the car:

-The color you see it is the correct color. I will double check the paint code and post up exactly what it's called. It has one re-paint which (my guess) was done sometime in the last 10-15 years.

-The car originally had a white vinyl top which was removed. The top was stripped and primed.

-The interior is white vinyl with a black dash and black carpet. The seats and door panels were re-covered somewhere around the time it was re-painted. Seat covers look presentable, but the door panels look cheesy.

-Previous owner hung a replacement 1/2 quarter on the driver's side and began patching the trunk - he did a decent job (he was a laid-off union sheet metal worker).

-Engine is a single-carb 428 c.i. I will have to do some research to verify if the engine is original to the car.

-Trans is a TH400 and the rear end is a 10 bolt open (gears unknown).

I have a Chrysler training class tonight that starts in 30 minutes so I have to get going. I will post more info and pics in the next few days.

I figured I'd just get it up here and try to see if there is any interest first.

    I'm looking for $2,600 - $2,800 - I will settle on a price shortly.

Here are some pics. I will get some more in the coming days.

The car is located in Tinley Park, IL 60477. It needs to be picked up as I don't really want to deal with shipping.

-Like I said, more info/pics to follow as the week goes on and I get more free time. PM or post up ?'s and I will try and answer them as soon as I can. Thanks.

Color is warwick blue. Restored a similiar car for my dad a few years ago. What shape is the interior in? Underside? Does it run, options? Did the car come out of Hoffman Estates? Thanks

First off I'd like to apologize for not going more into depth about the car. I work at a local Dodge dealer and I go to school 3 nights a week for Chrysler, plus I work 30 hrs/week so free time is precious. Even as I write this, it is now almost 1 AM and I have school at 8: so tonight's description will be a brief one.

First off, I would like to make myself clear by saying that this car needs a complete restoration. It is a very restorable project car that shouldn't be very hard to finish.

To answer some Q's, the car does run and drive. It currently needs a master cylinder to be driven safely (it only stops with the rears right now). The power steering pump is shot since it provides no power assist.

It is a factory A/C car with manual windows and locks and a non-power bench seat. The carpet is in nice shape and so is the dash board and headliner.

The car came out of Midlothian when I bought it and, judging from the village stickers on the windshield, it spent some years in Blue Island.

I have crates and crates of extra parts that were collected and given to me by the P.O.; most of the parts are under hood stuff and trim pieces.

The body is in OK shape. It isn't great, but it is still very restorable. The floors seem solid, but the passenger side of the trunk floor needs some love. I bought a 1/2 quarter patch for the passenger side as well but I never installed it.

I can't really think of anything else to describe at the moment. I will take more detailed pics of it when I have off on Friday since pictures speak better than words for the most part.

I have no problem showing the car in person if someone wants to come by.

Honestly I would never sell the car had I decided not to get married. I was originally trying to come up with a way to keep both the Electra and the Bonneville but money is going out the door to wedding stuff faster than it is coming in. So, alas whatever I get for the car is going towards our wedding.

    That's all for now.

Did you have this listed a while ago I think I posted in your first ad that I was interested and you deleted the post....

Yes I did. A moderator deleted it becasue I posed it as a "feeler" thread in the wrong forum.

I have since spoken with said moderator and he Ok'd me to post it here.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you as, since I wasn't the one who deleted the thread, I had no way of going back into it to see who posted.

Sorry Boston, if you are still interested please let me know.

I have the whole day off tomorrow as Fridays are pretty much my Sundays. I will take a lot of pics and verify as much stuff as I can for everyone -maybe even take a video of the car if you guys want.

Edit: forgot to mention - I believe the car has the 360 horse version of the 428. There were higher rated versions at 375 and 390. I will read through my Pontiac books to double check tomorrow.

I will be taking a video of the car in about 20 minutes and posting it this evening.

Please listen carefully to the video as I will be narrating it as I go. I will try to explain everything. I figure a video will be better than posting 484515843 pictures.

Ok, while I await the videos to upload to Youtube I will post some more info.

Here's what I found stamped on the driver's side cylinder head:

It is stamped "46". Here's what I found from Wallaceracing.com (Pontiac site):

    <TABLE style="WIDTH: 382px; HEIGHT: 26px" id=highlight class=hilite border=1><TBODY><TR class=hilight><TH>Year(s)</TH><TH>Engine</TH><TH>HP Rating</TH><TH>Head #</TH><TH>Valve Size</TH><TH>CC or CR</TH></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
    1969<TABLE style="WIDTH: 380px; HEIGHT: 26px" id=highlight class=hilite border=1><TBODY><TR class=hilight><TD>428</TD><TD>360HP</TD><TD>16(small-valve)46</TD><TD>1.96/1.66</TD><TD>10 c.r.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

I found some other castings too, but I don't know if they mean anything.

HEY GENE, I DID SPEAK ABOUT THIS CAR WITH THIS GUY, BUT HE WANTED TO DO A TRADE/CASH FOR THE 72 BONNE I HAVE....

We did! Nice to know you are on the forum and sorry I didn't end up with your '72. I ended up selling the truck I was going to trade for cash instead.

My fiance' still wanted a nice wedding car for the big day, so I ended up finding the Electra for cheap and the money I had left over paid off the remaining balance on her engagement ring.

    Now it's the Pontiac's turn.

Is it a 2 bolt or 4bolt main motor

    COOL

Well what's going to happen to that thing is that someone will buy it and yank the engine, if you lower the price some more. I assume it is a 2 bolt......not 100% on that....

What casting #'s can I check to find out how many bolts the main caps have and where would they be?

I'd really hate to see someone buy it just for the motor becasue it's such a cool car.

Thanks Batcar. Here's what I found from that link: NOTE: All 1967-68 428s are 4-bolt. All 1969 428s have 4-bolt holes, but low-performance engines with #46 heads have 2-bolt caps.

So, since it has #46 heads it is a 2 bolt main motor.
