Yes, you'll need to shorten the drive shaft, and use a different rear u joint. You'll then have a C clip rear. A better choice is an 8.5 10 bolt out of a 71-72 Skylark /GS. It';s a bolt in axle rear and very tough, and uses the same rear u joint, and parts are plentiful.
Larry, Not trying to step on toes....Info on the 12 bolt conversion it a bit off. the 68-70 10 bolt will swap with the 12 bolt chevy with NO MOds what so ever. The 12 bolt chevy rears came with 4 different yokes. 1. early 1310 u-bolt yoke 2. LArge 1330 strap and 4 bolt yoke (big block chevy only USUALLY) 3. late 1310 4 bolt 2 strap (very common) 4. B.O.P. yoke with 1330 joint and u-bolt 4 nut set up. # 4 yoke can be used and NO MODS to the drive line be modified. BUT you can also use any of the other yokes with a the conversion joint too at about 15-25 dollars it is a fairly easy deal too. The 10 bolt 8.5 is the only swap rear where you have to modify the length of the drive shaft. Longer shaft if your going from a 8.5 to and other rear shorter if your going from any other rear TO a 8.5 10 bolt. Hope this info helps. Keep up all the great work out there!!! Jim
The yoke for the 12-bolt Chevy, with the U-bolts & nuts was the common yoke for the Canadian-built cars.Any 68-69 Cutlass/442 or 68-69 Skylark built in Canada will have a 12-bolt Chevy with this yoke.I have these if needed. If swapping from an 8.2" 10-bolt to an 8.5" 10-bolt,you will need to shorten the driveshaft about 1".The pinion snout on the 8.5" is longer, therefor requiring a shorter shaft.
Brian, If one were to order a yoke for a 69 Canadian 12 bolt what type is it? 1310 or 1330. Like if you were ordering from a parts magazine or store what would you call it?
