1969 Buick skylark heater problem

Discussion in 'The Bench' started by Gabriel Zamora, Sep 30, 2020.

  1. My heater use to work I just rebuilt the engine completely and I noticed this green wire hanging and it was hot so I setup to my electrical choke for my carburetor and I’m now thinking that was the wire for my heater. If it is my heater wire where would I plug it in? I don’t know where it would go.

More information. Is the blower motor working and the air is just cold? Does the car have air conditioning?

  4. The blower doesn’t kick on when I flip the switch with the car running, I swear it use to work. That’s why I’m wondering where the green wire would plug in if it is the correct wire

The wire goes to the blower/fan along the back of the engine compartment firewall and connects under the top rear of the passenger fender. I'll try and post a picture when I get home. I though it was black with a colored stripe.

First step is to check the fuse. Should be labelled Blower A/C. Should be 25 Amp in right column, second fuse down.

  7. I’ll check the fuse when I get home thank you and I’ll see if there is any other cords not plugged in

On my 69 with AC the green wire goes to the compressor, the black wire with an orange stripe is going to the blower motor.

^^^ what he said about the black and orange. Even my '64 and '72 used that. How long is the green wire? It may go to a bad Blower relay by the voltage regulator...The plug on the compressor is a green and black (BL for the ground) off the super heat switch on the back IIRC... ws

  10. update the fuse for the heater keeps popping everytime i put it in? what size do you put in the fuze box

  11. i found out its a 10 amp fuse and i was putting that in there but it pops everytime and it didnt use to pop when i first got it all I did was change the intake manifold and distributor and carburator. Idk why it would pop?

You have a short in the wiring somewhere. Bare wire shorting to ground. That is why fuses pop. Look at your wiring that you moved around changing the intake.

Check your wires going to the blower motor resistor on The A/C box located on the passenger side firewall. The wires provide the different fan speeds when you toggle the blower switch in the car . Also 69’s have a high speed relay on the firewall in the middle. If these check out take a look at the blower switch itself & the power supply wire to the fusebox- should be brown , double check your wire diagram to all the correct wire colors

The Heater A/C fuse is a 25 amp fuse. The one below it is a 10 Amp for the radio.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I guess that explains why the 10A fuse keeps popping.

Maybe. Not so sure about that. If it pops instantly, it's usually a dead short.
