Just had a similar problem. When changing cam and lifters it may change your original length. I bought a cam from ta and lifters from summit. Anyways took make along story short you need to get a set of adjustable pushrods, or buy one , find the proper lash length and order 16. I am currently running all adjustables. I am assuming you are using stock pushrods. And by the way, no it is not normal to have slop. (whiggle room) If you read the fine print on the comp cam lifters I believe you will read something in regards to needing an adjustable valve train. Which of-course the buick doesn't have. My dumb*** made this mistake is how I know. I am running comps cam super magnum lifters.

HMMM. the kit came with push rods to huh? You would think they would have all the measurements. Regardless your push rods are too short and that's an issue. The only way to fix the problem is to order 1 adjustable pushrod or all 16 if you are in a rush from ta performance. I was in such a rush a got mine in like 2 days. Anyways you can run adjustable pushrods or just get one and find out the length it needs to be then place an order for them all. Make sense?

Of the top of my head it goes something like this. First remove all the spark plugs so you can turn motor over easy. When Intake valve starts to open adjust the exhaust valve in same cylinder. Lengthen pushrod to it contacts rocker. Then turn another half turn. When exhaust valve starts to close adjust intake pushrod on same cylinder. Now I might have this flop flopped a little or completely but someone else will chime in or I will get you my notes in the next day or say. It is just like a chevy also you can adjust more than one cylinder at a time. The guys at ta can also help you out with this. Plus there is all kinds of info on this subject either here or elsewhere on the internet. Just torque your rocker arm shafts to I think 30lbs. torque.

Well the first problem is your cam set is probably for a '70 and up 350 that feeds oil to the rockers through the pushrods. I doubt Comp lists one specifically for the '69 and earlier. The factory setup uses a solid pushrod that has 3/8" ball ends IIRC. The ones you have from the set are probably 5/16" tipped hollow and the lifters probably have a 5/16" cup to match with a feed hole. The best bet as you say is to call TA. They probably will recommend a set of their hybrid adjustable pushrods that are hollow but have a 5/16" end at the lifter and a 3/8" end at rockers. Adjust them correctly and you'll be fine. Just make sure you break the cam in correctly. No idling early on!

Not cheap but they will do the job.
