Does anyone know where I can find the rear deck padding that's right under the rear window of a '68 Special Deluxe? Mine had gotten warped from rain seeping through and turned into a pile of mildew. Also, isn't the Special more or less the same exact car as the Skylark minus some different trim and 4 bbl carb instead of 2? I'm getting my car painted here in a couple or so weeks and would like that rear deck pad when it's done.

Alright, I believe I found what I'm looking for. Closest thing I can find is ear muff board, so does that sound right? I'm looking at the one from the parts place inc.

It sounds like what you are looking for is the package tray/shelf

Thanks.....You wouldn't happen to know the difference between the standard package tray and the deluxe though would you?

The standard tray is a solid piece, with some grain, the deluxe is like a mesh type material.

Sounds good. I ordered the standard tray. I'll have to show my car when it's done. If this place allows pictures I'll post one.

i made mine out of a piece of hard board i bought at home depot. used the original insulator blanket and head rest pad from the original. painted it to match the rest of my interior. cost me about $11 for a 3X7 ft piece so i redid the ones in my century and my 68 as well.

I can't use the original blanket. That board and blanket were completly rotted out. I ordered one so it should be fine, shipping was expensive though.

I'm having the same problem with my 70' skylark. What are you using for the trim around the window and the back of the seats?

my trim and head rest pad were salvageable, so i cleaned up the trim and reattached the old pad to the new board just like stock. painted it mat [semi flat] black like the original. was pretty easy to do. i dont know if new ones come with the head rest pad, if it doesnt, you may have to improvise by using some light foam or maybe quilting batting. if you go into a fabric shop and act like a big dumb guy, you can usually get the gals behind the counter to help you out. otherwise you can get an upholstry shop to make you one.
as an additional problem to throw in here, i have noticed that the package tray on my century is already starting to show signs of water collection. the back window isnt leaking, it is condensation early in the morning that runs down the inside of the window and collects around the edges of the tray. i dont know how to stop this as it is an act of nature. so maybe i will have to pull the tray and spray it with some kind of weatherproofing paint or sealer.
