In doing some historical research on my own car, I spied with my little eye several '68 Rivs with a ram air style hood scoop (via Google images). One picture had the Riviera GS with the build document, but nowhere on the sheet (in standard, options and add-ons) did it mention an upgraded hood for the GS package, or any other kind of package. Anyone know the history and/or name of the hood? Was it a functioning Ram Air hood like the Skylark GS's? IS the hood a rarity? I've seen them on very few Rivs. I'm curious on the history of this item, thanks, guys!
Im about 80% sure that is a custom hood and not factory. I could be wrong though. either way I like it.
I'd be willing to accept it's a custom hood, except here it is on another Riv: Two cars with the same idea for a hood scoop? Did '69 come with a hood option? Perhaps on a Stage 1 or Stage 2 package?
It appears to be just for looks. (Looks good too!) Its low rise would keep it in the boundary layer. I agree that it appears to be a Ford design.
Here's one for comparison- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-71-torino-hood-scoop_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3ca666e24fQQitemZ260489798223QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
. . . never offered as an option Jason - those are all custom fabricated, and look pretty good too ! I've also seen a shaker style hood, and a ram air style but they were also 'customs'. :TU:
I remember when he first posted about doing that hood. I busted his balls back then because he cut up a perfect GS hood to make it! :af: It does look good though.
I have a question then. I have a 68 Riviera model that had the stock hood or the custom hood (which looks like the one in question). What's the deal with that?
