Hi everyone, New to the board and total rookie, But I wanna learn...
I have a 1970 buick skylark with just the 350 in it. I know a guy selling a 1968 Riviera 430 engine and TH 400 transmission. Just wondering if this is a fairly easy swap or if i shouldn't mess with it. Thanks!

Awesome. I'm wondering if I should just put the 430 on the 350 tranny and smoke it before I pull it out..

It may make life even easier, and the TH350 might hold up just fine. The short tail TH400 trans from the Riviera will require the oddball Riviera yoke and an odd driveshaft length for an A-body swap too, if I remember right.

Nice, I'm in Colorado and a guy in Salt Lake has a "hear it run" 430 he's yanking today. for 350 bucks I figure its pretty dang good deal. has 68K original miles. He's pulling it to put in a straight six for fuel economy. I've read somewhere that the center sump oil pan will interfere with the skylark sway bars.... I might be wrong. But when I pick this up what other things should I ask this guy for that he'll no longer need on his car. you guys rock btw thanks!

Good point about the oil pan...you'll need a big block rear sump pan and oil pickup for your Skylark. An oil pan gasket kit should take care of the swap unless you plan to tear into it even further.

Ok so that is right. I'm just wondering if this is a good idea. It's a pretty long drive and I want to make sure it's worth it. Or should I just hold out and look for a 455? I'm just having a pretty hard time finding parts and things in colorado.

Here you can buy 455s for basically the same price as a 430.

You can never have too many engines and parts laying around I guess huh. I'd rather have a 455 but this 430 is in really good shape and has been running. I like that. the 430 and 455 are basically the same externally right? So I'm thinking save the 400 tranny and mounting the 430 should be fairly easy. will I need the wire harness from the 430? Like I said, I'm new and want to learn... Thanks!

The oil pan on the Riv 430 will probably have to be changed over to a rear sump pan/pickup tube.

Running low milage 430 for 350.00 is a good deal. get it before it gets away.

Ok, Got this baby I got everything I could. The radiator may be a few inches long to fit my skylark though. So I need to switch this center pan out for a rear sump pan. I can take this off sandblast and paint it and trade anyone if they're willing to.

The top of my low milage trans setting in the car looks just like that. I dont know how so much crud gets up there.
