I really hate doing this. Here goes. I have a 68 Sportwagon with numbers matching 400 BB. It has every option available at the time - cruise control, power bench, power windows, 9 seat option, tilt, A/C, wood grain trim, roof rack and so on. It's not perfect though. It has some rust on the side windows - not bad. There is rust on the floor pan but it has not been compromised (that I can tell). There's a rub on the rear passenger quarter but it's minimal. This car ran when I bought it. I had plans on tearing it down, but things have changed. Since I bought the car 2 and a half years ago, I have not turned it over once. Not sure what else to say. I love this car. This will be the most painful thing to do but according the contract I signed with my wife, it's got to go. This car deserves a restore - not to be parted out. I have a new rear deflector that goes with it. I have a good front bumper that goes with it. The rear bumper is straight and solid. This was purchased new by a couple in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Lastly, I've done the leg work and gotten the paperwork ready for filing a lost title. All that needs to be done is turn it in. I have pics but I'm at work and will post them when I get home which won't be till tomorrow evening. If you are interested, PM me. BTW, also selling my 68 GS400 and my 68 Skylark HT 3 speed if you have any interest in those.
Don't know what the contract with the wife was, but that sucks that you have to sell the car. Wish I was in a position to look at buying it! I would love a sportwagon. You shouldn't have too much trouble selling it though.
Yikes, didn't realize I hadn't updated my signature in a while. I've gotten rid of both parts cars but still have alot of parts left from them. As for the contract, I'll be replacing these three with 1 big one, but I was given a choice and space and time dictate selling off the fleet. Maybe one day I'll get the sportwagon back - one caveat is I get to keep her if no "good" buyer steps forward. I feel she's worth more but you guys get first dibbs over craigslist. The other two HTs have to go regardless of the person's intentions.
Here are some pics of the Sportwagon as promised. I'd like to get this sold by the end of next weekend or else, on Craigslist it goes.
A lot of us just cant give our cars away right now it seems. Those that can/did sell should consider themselves damn lucky! Good luck,it looks like a good deal!:TU:
I sent you a PM last week about the NOS roof Spoiler - it would be going on my almost-NOS 68 Sporty 400 with only 28K on the clock
I'd do it if I still had the old one. But I sold that off. I have to believe that living on the west coast, we get very spoiled out here. No salt means these are cars are still around vs the east coast. Oh well, like I said, I maky be able to keep her.
I have a ton of extra sportwagon trim and glass and other parts you can have or the buyer can have them if you sell it.
That may be true down there, but up here on the Washington coast they rot pretty bad if measures are not taken to keep them alive. In the case of a vintage car like that, it takes lots of garage time. With 60 to 100 inches of rain on the Washington coast, people who don't care drive cars with green growing on them and rust holes everywhere. I would love to have that rig and it's a great price. Too bad the only thing that I can put ahead of my build budget is if I had a chance for a 65 or another 64 Skylark. I would love to keep one stock (more or less) as a driver and then build one.
Good car. I 'm think about buying a car like this. I just talk it with my wife now. If we decide to buy it, I 'll PM you. Thanks.o No:
The market is terrible right now for cars - I truly thought that I'd be waving goodbye to this car 2 weeks ago. There's always plan B. Keep the Sportwagon, part out the 400, sell the HT. I wonder though, how would the Sportwagon look if I took the front clip of the 400 and put it on the sportwagon. Keep in mind, I'd still keep the wood grain trim (just pop some holes in appropriate spots) :idea2: Then I'd have what could be considered a true GS400 sportwagon (if they made one) - don't worry, I'd keep the original fenders just in case.
Well there are others of us with interest, but spamy was the only one that had the cash for the project right now! I would love one of those for taking trips in. It would have to be an optioned one like you have for the summer trips so that I could have A/C though.
Mark if you end up keeping it give me a shout. i'm parting a 68 sportwagon and i have tons of extra stuff (most of it free)
My hope is that you decide to keep it so I won't keep thinking about it. This new economy has just about beaten all the fun out of cool vintage cars and the stuff we want to do with them.
I'm interested, though the drive is far, I might come up with a reason to travel. Love to get ahold of one of these and restore as I grew up with one from the day I was born until 25years later.
