Hello group; I'm, posting this message just to see if anyone knows anything about this car: http://www.americashottestcars.com/DCP05553.JPG All I know is: 1968 Buick gs400 automatic rnd1 bucket seats 69,000 original miles parked here since 1987 ran when parked still has wheels on the property many spider webs on engine interior is there but needs restoring james HotWwlz hotcars@americashottestcars.com
Are you trying to find out if we know something about the specific car in the photo, or the GS400 in general?
Does it have the GS hood, I don't see the scoop. Don't really know what else to see from that pic that would tell me it's a GS and not the base Skylark??? If it's been sitting outside for almost 20 years there has got to be some serious rust issues with the body and FRAME. I am a fan of the '68's but to me his price is WAY out of line.
It looks like the whole nose could have been replaced - blue vs the rest of the car being a white color.
Looks like a Skylark fender there too, judging by the lower emblems behind the wheel. It should have a single fake air vent, and "GS 400" emblems in that location. Find the VIN and post it, we'll tell you what model it is... Going only by this pic, it looks to be a bit overpriced.
Check the VIN to be sure. My personal opinion is there's a good chance it is a GS400 with a Skylark front clip. It has the aluminum front drums too (at least one anyway).
I guess he's trying to get a return on what he paid for it in 1968. For a rusted out car that's only half GS400, the owner is way overpricing it.
Doesn't matter what the trunk emblem says, the VIN tells the story. Anyone can transplant GS parts onto a Skylark. Get the VIN from the dash, get the engine serial # off the block, check the trans for a # matching up with the VIN. It does seem likely the front clip has been swapped for a Skylark, but the #'s tell the true story, to back up the GS claim. Even if it is a true GS400, it's in pretty rough shape for $3500. Consider the rust you can see, and multiply it by 3... then think how hard it is to find sheet metal for a 68 car.
Check the VIN....should start 44637. It does look promising to me that it has an aluminum front drum, but it definitely does have a Skylark front end on it.
Clapped out '68 He's off by a factor of 10 - car would be worth $350 maybe. '68 GS's don't bring Chevelle money. On top of the low value we are used to, there aren't many reproduction parts available. No new grilles, you have to adapt rear quarters from a '69, on and on. I wouldn't start with this car for a restoration. Offer him $500 max as a parts car, and that's generous.
Agree the price is high, but come on the motor, trans and rear end would be worth more than $350. Looks like a $750-$1000 car to me.
James, To give you an idea, my 69 GS 400 4 speed, numbers matching, loaded with rare options was $2500.00. 1 of 785 cars. Rich
Rich, That is not a typical price for your car unless it needed a "complete" resto, sounds like you got a good deal... :TU: Its hard to put a price on the '68 GS in the original post, does it have a "good" posi rear?, power windows, power seat or any other rare options? Just from the photo I would not go over $600 to $700, if there were any good parts... :beer
I guess I should have added basketcase in there somewhere. Total restoration. I looked for ever. The car was just to cool not to save. Here's what it looked like when I picked it up: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=87863 Some Day :3gears: Rich
Hey here is a finished one unless you just want the project. You will at least spend this much on that car. http://www.brickstreetmuscle.com/69buick/69buick.htm
