Hi guys, This might be a stupid question, but I want to straighten my center support bracket (where the grill bolts on). My car was in a minor front end collision and I think it is bent, but I am not sure about the undamaged shape. Specifically, there are two areas (see pics): 1. is the bracket meant to be straight, or should it be curved in the middle? 2. are the bolt hole areas meant to be indented like this, or should they be flush with the part of the bracket that runs between the holes vertically? Thanks in advance. I can't find a good illustration or photo of this part. Checked this site, my service manual, body manual, and google. I saw the pics in this thread. Still not sure. I think it should be flat? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...ark-bolts-from-hood-latch-to-radiator-support
Hopefully someone can give you some direction soon. I would look at my '67 and tell you what it looks like but it's in storage and won't see the light of day until spring. The part in your photos sure does look tweaked compared to the photos on the other thread you referenced though.
Hi Stacey, Thanks for your reply. Here down under, summer is just kicking off---hence my enthusiasm!!
Thank you Joe, Boy, when you commented that it took you ages to restore your grille you weren't kidding! I have put numerous hours into repairing the cracks in the plastic and straightening the steel trim. I am almost finished with my grille and the headlight doors. I have just spent the last few hours degreasing and sanding the hood latch in preparation for painting as well as straightening and painting the center support piece. I just made sense to me after awhile that it should be straight, so I went for it. Thanks for the confirmation! Before I reassemble this stuff I am also going to repaint the area around the radiator and headlights. Once I get the front suspension, steering, and grille, etc reassembled I will post some pictures.
