I hate people like that. " I want a $1000. for it or it's going to the crusher for $400." Why don't they just take the crush price for it if they want to get rid of it that bad? :blast:
don't forget the part about "chinese steel" - ouch :af: is the crusher price for a Riv $600? i knew a guy who took a junky 84 chevy impala to the scrap yard. i think he got $60/ton during the peak commodity price for metal.
I would love to have that Riv and I would hate to see it smashed, but I wouldn't give the jerk a dime after that ad.
we were getting $220/ton for steel this past summer and was over $300/ton last year, when i took some in in the fall it was $190/ton. so if the riv weighs 5000#'s and they're paying even $150/ton then scrap value would be $375.
Scrap metal is at a 10 year high right now....just went to an auction and all of the scrap cars started at $475....and these were 90's cars.
$10 per hundred last week here. So you are looking at around $430 for that car here. I sure don't understand his ad. If he truly is going to get $600 why not sell it to someone to save it for the same amount.

He had a zillion calls on the Riv and sold it almost immediately. Why did he word his ad like that? Because when a car like that is listed for sale (a field beater/parts car/etc.), the scrappers call on them and try to pick them up for beans. So, like in this case, he priced it fairly, but let it be known the car won't be given away. In all seriousness, the seller of the Riv was one of the nicest people I have ever talked to on CL. Man, there's so many fruitcakes out there that respond to CL ads that you are almost forced to be kind of a jerk in your ad. Word it so that you only get those serious about your item to respond, such as this ad. One other thing about wording the ad that way, it got those serious about the car to contact him immediately. It may not be the smoothest way to advertise the car, but it worked like a charm.
From what Troy said, it was a guy that was couple hours away in CO. I am going there this weekend to get another car, so if anyone is interested in the Riv I'll look it over just in case the other buyer backed out. Where the car is located it most likely is as solid as they come.
He sold it and it is going to be restored now. I just called him. If anyone knows a good place to find a straight hood and trunk lid please let me know, trying to get this thing finished for paint. Thanks.
This address isn't accurate, but it will put you where I am talking about. Do a google Maps search for 3509 Long Pine, Santa Fe, Tx. The house on the corner with the white building behind it, has 2 1966's sitting in the back yard. You can see them in the map if you do Satellite view and zoom in. One has a good hood and a rusty trunk lid (my old trunk lid). The other has a decent hood and good trunk lid. He has another 66 inside the white building along with a purple '67. The ones inside the building he is restoring. The ones in the back yard are his parts cars. Me and him used to be friends (2006), then he went oversea's and brought back a wife and started ignoring my calls, and quit answering the door when I went to visit him, so I gave up on being his friend and haven't spoke to him since then. Might be worth a shot. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...748,-95.062409&spn=0.000713,0.002135&t=h&z=19
