    Hey Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I have a 1967 Buick Special 2dr hardtop. The original 340 was swapped for a 70 455 engine and 200-4R with 3.90 gears installed. I want to run staggered wheels, 20X8.5 front and 20X10 rear. The original 8.2 BOP axle is being used. The wheels are American Eagle Boss 338 20X10 +20 Offset 6.225” backspace(rear) and 20X8.5 +14 Offset 5.239” backspace(front). Tires will be Front 255/35/20 and Rear 285/30/20. Will this tire and wheel setup work on my 67 Buick Special?
    Thanks.

Roll the crap out of your fenders.

WOW! Those would be some big meats in the rear!

Having owned a '67 GS and a '65 GS I'm going to say not a chance. At least with those wheels. Way too much backspace. Those seem more like FWD wheel spacing.

A 15x7 with 4.25" BS will barely fit the front before it is near the tie rod end. A larger diameter will help fit a larger backspace some but not that much.

Forget that much back space on the rear. That fenderwell is pretty limited. The tire may fit but you'll need a better offset wheel. I don't think front or rear would even bolt on before it hits something.

I looked up those tire sizes and you actually have a taller tire on the front 27" than on the back 26.7". Not the best look. You did get into the right area of tallness for the tires though. Too many people put way too short tire on the old school cars and then they look dinky.

I'd go with the 255 35 20 on the rear(27") on an 8.5" wheel with the correct backspace. The 5.239" you list should be just about right. Your original tire size probably would fit in back but it needs a minimum rim of 9.5". That 10" rim might fit but it will need some big spacer.

On the front go with a more correct height 225 35 20(26.3") on a 7-7.5" wheel with about 4.5" BS. Too tall on the front and you'll be hitting something when steering.

There's a few guys around here with bigger diameter wheels but not many. If I had to look around I'd check what some of the Chevy guys are running on their '64-'67 Pro Touring cars on various sites.

No guarantees on fitment numbers I gave but they shoud get you in the ball park. Measure everything twice before purchasing anything.

One last thing the 20" rim is going to make the car ride MUCH harder especially on bumps.

    Welcome and good luck.

Thanks for the post. The specs that I gave in the orginal post where from American Eagle site and is suppose to fit a 67 Chevelle. I am going for the Pro Touring look and I have gone to some pro touring sites. I have been thinking that the back space for the 20X10 rims (+20 Offset 6.225) is too much. Since the 67 GTO is very similar to my buick (both have the BOP rear axle and similar rear diminsions) I am using it for possible fittment sizes. I am hoping that a 20X10 with 5.25" backspace will work. I have some space to role the fenders. The wheel that I favor now are RushForth Supper Spokes. What are your thought on this back space?
